The Wests Tigers and Gold Coast Titans are in a tussle to keep in touch with the top eight when they face off this afternoon. Join The Roar for live scores and a blog of the match, starting at 2pm (AEST).

Despite the fact their last start saw the Tigers capitulate to the Raiders 48-12 – having led 12-10 at the break – expectations are high for Ivan Cleary’s men.

Previously lauded for their defensive resilience, Wests embarrassed themselves in the second 40 against Canberra, as they conceded seven uncharacteristically soft tries.

Supposedly, new recruits Moses Mbye and Robbie Farah will bring the club instant success. While they should add much-needed spark in attack, the Tigers still face an uphill battle to respond in defence.

Meanwhile, the Titans come into this game off one of their most impressive performances, albeit against the struggling Bulldogs.

The 32-10 victory saw the Gold Coast finally fulfil their potential in attack, as Ryan James put in a powerful display up front.

Poor execution did let the Titans down at times and coach Garth Brennan will realise they need to improve in this respect if they are to challenge for a spot in the finals.

The win against Canterbury sees the Gold Coast sit just two points behind the Raiders and Tigers. Therefore, a victory this week is crucial for their top-eight aspirations. A loss likely ends their season given that the eighth-placed Broncos are already six points ahead of them.

Prediction
While the additions of Farah and Mbye should see the Tigers improve, I simply cannot tip them based off what they dished up a fortnight ago.

The Titans should be too potent in attack and will build off their last-start win.

Titans by seven.
