The fourth season of the Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL) will bring fans more live action than ever before, with increased free-to-air coverage and stand-alone finals the biggest talking points out of today’s draw release.

The most significant development out of this year’s draw is the introduction of stand-alone finals for the first time.

This means that the top-ranked sides will be rewarded with games in front of their home crowds.

Cricket Australia Head of Big Bash Leagues, Kim McConnie, said that the stand-alone finals series was an important step in preparing for the independent future of the women’s competition.

“For the first time ever we are moving the WBBL Finals to stand-alone fixtures separate to the men’s competition, in a move that is sure to please players, clubs and the fans,” she said.

“Giving the WBBL its own window for finals is an important step for the League as we look ahead to a stand-alone fixture in the 2019-20 season.”

Fans will also be able to catch more of the action from home, with 23 games set to be broadcasted across Fox Sports and Seven throughout the 2018/19 season, almost double the number of televised matches from the season prior.

Once again, all regular season games will also be free to attend, making this year’s WBBL the most accessible in the competition’s short history.

North Sydney Oval, the established home of women’s cricket in Sydney, will play host to four matches while the WBBL will be taken to Burnie, Tasmania for the first time.

The season officially kicks off on December 1 at CitiPower Centre in the first instalment of three festival weekends to open WBBL04.

The second round of the competition begins on Friday, December 7, and sees the Sydney Sixers and Perth Scorchers face off at North Sydney Oval in a rematch of last year’s Final.

The regular season comes to a close on Monday, January 14 when the Stars and Sixers meet at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.

The semi-finals begin on January 19 with the Final set to be played the following weekend on Australia Day.
