Melbourne City have boosted their midfield ranks with the signing of former Perth Glory skipper Rostyn Griffiths on a two-season A-League deal.
Griffiths left the Glory at the end of last season to link up with Uzbek outfit Pakhtakor Tashkent, but cut short his contract after making just nine appearances for the club.
The 30-year-old will add more steel and experience to City’s midfield, which already features Luke Brattan, Anthony Caceres, Dario Vidosic and Riley McGree.
“Rostyn is a proven performer, excelling in both protecting the back four and in transitioning play from defence to attack quickly,” coach Warren Joyce said.
“Rostyn’s experience and leadership will also prove beneficial to the younger members of our squad as we continue to nurture and develop the players of tomorrow.”
Griffiths has previously played for Dutch outfit Roda JC, Chinese side Guangzhou R&F plus A-League clubs Adelaide, Central Coast and the now-defunct North Queensland Fury.
“There is an experienced and well-respected group of players and coaches at Melbourne City, which will give me the chance to keep developing my game while allowing me to pass on my experience to some of the younger players,” he said.
Griffiths joins Caceres, McGree, Lachlan Wales and Scottish forward Michael O’Hallorans as City’s off-season recruits.
