David Reynolds of Erebus Motorsport has claimed pole position for the 2018 Bathurst 1000, posting a 2.04.0589 lap in the top-ten shootout on Sunday afternoon.
It was a fantastic afternoon for Erebus, with Reynolds the defending champion to go from pole after just holding off Jamie Whincup by four-hundredths of a second.
In the surprise of the afternoon, Anton De Pasquale was the surprise packet, picking up third position, but he will be kicking himself after setting a 2.04.3498. He was on track for something in the range of 2.04.1 until he ran wide at Murray’s Corner.
Shane Van Gisbergen and Scott McLaughlin, who messed up his exit from The Chase, will round out the top five for the great race, while Cameron Waters, Nick Percat and James Courtney were the next three.
The top ten was rounded out by retiree Craig Lowndes, who had to deal with the same steering problems which have hampered him all weekend, and Garth Tander, who was the first man away in the shootout, but didn’t quite get the pace required.
