The Rugby World Cup quarter-finals are almost upon us, but before the knockout stage gets underway, there’s time still to wrap up the pool matches.
That’s exactly what we’re doing on today’s episode of the Game of Codes podcast, with rugby expert Brett McKay joining us to talk all things World Cup.
With Japan’s first ever quarter-final appearance sealed following an undefeated run through Pool A, which included historic wins over Ireland and Scotland, there’s no prizes for guessing what the best moment of the group stage was.
Listen to all the discussion in the player above.
Player of the pool stage? That’s a different matter entirely. Plenty of players, particularly from the second-tier nations, stuck their hand up with impressive performances in the round-robin section of the tournament.
Semi Radradra from Fiji was certainly one, but you could also make a case for the likes of Brave Blossoms winger Kotaro Matsushima, and there are some other names who the guys made a case for – have a listen to the discussion to hear them all.
With a quarter-final against England looming, we also break down just how concerning the Wallabies’ lacklustre win over Georgia was, and what they need to correct before the do-or-die clash against Eddie Jones’ side.
