With the resignation of Rugby Australia CEO Raelene Castle, re-establishing the Wallabies’ brand is crucial to the game’s survival.

Like all sports teams, the Wallabies need to win matches again. It’s that simple.

All sports teams can have their failures. The huge brand of Manchester United once languished in the second division, relegated from what was then the first division. Look at their popularity now.

Let us not forget that a crowd of 109,874 gathered to watch an All Blacks versus Wallabies clash in Sydney in the year 2000.

Rugby Australia must stabilise the board situation and start working with Dave Rennie to develop a competitive team that can go toe-to-toe with any opposition.

The current state of rugby union in Australia has probably reached its lowest point after a 2017 flogging at the hands of the All Blacks by a scoreline of 54-35.

This should have alerted people to the potential failure two years later in the World Cup at the hands of England.

Surely it is only upwards from here. Like it or not, the Wallabies are a brand, and the current state of that brand needs work.

Only victories at the international level can save Rugby Australia and grow the game’s support base in this country.

Matches between the Wallabies and All Blacks have been played for 117 years. It is a huge tradition.

In the true tradition of rugby union, everyone here should try to bury gripes and move together as a team.

Having met the Pumas’ international team once, the thing that struck me was their togetherness. That reflects on the field and in their performances.

Passion for rugby should be the same whether you are from New South Wales, Queensland, Tasmania, Western Australia, South Australia, Victoria, the Australian Capital Territory or the Northern Territory.

Rugby union is a team game, and that’s its strength.
