The Bathurst 1000 for 2021 will take place on December 5 from 12:15pm AEDT at the Mount Panorama Circuit where 25 driver pairings will go head to head in the 64th running of the Great Race.
The winners of the 1000km race will be crowned Kings of the Mountain and walk away with bragging rights as the Supercar season comes to a close for the year. The Roar have all the details you need on which drivers are paired together and the cars they’ll be driving.>
Reigning Bathurst champions, Shane van Gisbergen and Garth Tander, will not only return to defend their title but van Gisbergen will know that a second Supercars Driver’s title is in the bag for him as well as his lead in the points ladder is unassailable.
Racing legend, Jamie Whincup, might not be able to catch team rival van Gisbergen in the Driver’s competition but with his announcement that he plans to retire after Bathurst, he’ll want one last victory on the Mountain. In the lead up to the race, Whincup shared how important Bathurst is to him when he said “To have one (Bathurst win) would have been enough for me, but to have four is an amazing feeling.”
Of the 25 different cars, 17 are Holden Commodores and the remaining eight are all Ford Mustangs. The rivalry between Holden and Ford has been as famous as the driver battles that have played out across the 161 lap Bathurst 1000 races down the years. With Holden no longer operating in Australia, the Bathurst 1000 is the final place where this showdown can play out.
