One of the most frantic and pressurised deals pending, as we enter the final hours of the winter transfer window, is Liverpool’s apparent determination to bring Fabio Carvalho into the fold for £7 million and a willingness to immediately return the player back to Fulham on loan in the short term.

It all sounds a little rushed and the Reds will do well to get this one through, yet, player and club willing, there could well be a very late and significant move yet to be done.

The 19-year-old Portuguese is a star of the future and the club destined to get the best out of him will not do so for a few seasons yet. Liverpool appears to be playing the smart and long game with him, with Fulham likely to be responsible for much of his development over the next two seasons, should the deal go through.

Sports opinion delivered daily

Glasgow Rangers are close to signing Polish defender Mateusz Zukowski, with the 20-year-old looming as a potentially solid top-flight defender once he matures. Rangers have some ageing legs in defence and potentially require a little shoring up in that section of the pitch.

The Pole could well be the perfect fit and a brilliant investment for the future, based on the scouting reports compiled on him by some of Europe’s best.

Tanguy Ndombele is reportedly in Lyon and about to sign a deal with the French club. It appears likely to be a loan arrangement at this stage, yet after spending time in France early in his professional career and feeling ever frustrated in England over the last few seasons, an option to buy is likely to be included in the deal.

The 25-year-old Tottenham midfielder wants out and the best thing for world football is to see the talented Frenchman back in happy surrounds; there, we will see him at his best once again.

After being a much talked about player early in the window, Ousmane Dembele has once again come into focus. The 24-year-old Frenchman appears keen for a move to French powerhouse Paris Saint-Germain, with Barcelona seeking somewhere in the vicinity of £20 million for the transfer to take place.

Apparently a verbal agreement has been done, despite a few Premier League clubs sniffing about in the final days of the transfer window. This one does seem a little way off at this point, yet a brisk agreement with Barca could well see Dembele on the way to France more quickly than many thought possible.

West Ham United continue to be mentioned in regards to potential new signings, yet David Moyes is still to pull the trigger when it comes to adding depth to a squad that needs one or two more pieces before becoming the real deal.

Leeds United duo Raphinha and Kalvin Phillips are the latest two to be reportedly on the Hammers’ radar, yet at least one pundit has mocked the interest, citing the value both have to Leeds and West Ham’s seemingly pie in the sky approach to the transfer window.

To tease fans just a little more, West Ham have reportedly become interested in Benfica striker Darwin Nunez. However, with the player away on international duty and contracted until 2025, there appears to be a long way to go before the 22-year-old takes to a pitch wearing the claret and blue.

In recent hours, the likelihood of this scenario has decreased even further.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang now appears almost certain to be on the way to Barcelona, with wages potentially the only sticking point prior to all the final details being done.

It would be a timely loan for the 32-year-old, after a recent period of disappointment at Arsenal and opportunity elsewhere required in order to extend his career at the top level.

Manchester United appear to be playing a clever and well-executed game in the continuing Jesse Lingard negotiations.

Happy to see the 29-year-old depart and the player keen to make a fresh start at Newcastle United, Manchester are interested in an additional £12 million bonus should the Magpies avoid relegation.

It is a crafty game and one that will need to be decided in the coming hours for the transfer to take place. Rumour suggests Newcastle are not keen to enter such an arrangement and Lingard could well have his plans scuppered at the final hour.

Deadline day approaches and last-minute negotiations are taking place right across Europe. There will undoubtedly be a final fling of moves in the coming hours, so be sure to stick with The Roar for all the late rumours and deals, as we enter the final day of the winter transfer window.
