Young excellence, promotion battles, and a happy farewell: The Australian team of the week from players around the globe
Even though St.Pauli ultimately lost a high-scoring affair, Jackson Irvine was a standout, as well as scoring a late goal.
The Socceroos are playing a crucial 2022 World Cup qualifier against Japan in Sydney tonight.
Automatic qualification to football’s biggest tournament is on the line and the Socceroos must win if they want to have a chance of going directly to the tournament rather than having to navigate sudden death playoffs between both an Asian and South American team.
Australia’s currently third in their qualifying group with two games remaining. Japan tonight and Saudi Arabia next week.
Win both these matches and Australia is through the World Cup in Qatar!
It won’t be easy. Japan defeated Australia 2-1 the last time the two sides met back in October.
Kick-off for the Socceroos vs Japan at Stadium Australia in Homebush is scheduled for 8:10pm AEDT.
That’s 7:10pm AEST for those in Queensland, 7:40pm ACDT for South Australians and 5:10pm AWST for those in Western Australia.
Channel Ten and 10play have the rights for Socceroos friendlies and World Cup qualifying games.
Channel 10 can be found on free-to-air television or if you’d prefer to stream the action you can find the match on the 10 Play app which is available on mobile devices, internet browser or through various smart TVs.
