The crucial cogs of AFL's Round 7: Which players need to be the difference makers?
We’re taking a look at one player from each team that needs to make a difference this week, starting with the ANZAC Day games.
Robbie Williams has stolen the show at the AFL Grand Final – before a ball has even been kicked.
His performance, in which he was joined by Delta Goodrem, is already being talked about as one of the best to grace the MCG on footy’s biggest day.
The former Take That man, dressed head to toe in bright pink, was walking in Meat Loaf’s massive footsteps, but rather than butchering his performance, Robbie nailed it with both uplifting and poignant moments.
“Hello, Australia,” he started. “I’m Robbie Williams. Over the next twenty minutes, I’m gonna be phenomenal… so you better be good!”. He wasn’t wrong.
Robbie began with Let Me Entertain You and segued into Rock DJ before dedicating his classic Angels to what he called “one of Australia’s greatest rock stars – Shane Warne”.
Williams even joked about his song off his new album, declaring “it’s an obligatory new song, we’ll get through it together” before proclaiming “back to the hits” when it was done.
He then paid tribute to John Farnham, currently recovering from cancer, by covering You’re the Voice and closed the show with a duet with Delta Goodrem, but long before that, social media was already awash with praise for the British pop star.
“Congrats to the 2022 Norm Smith medallist Robbie Williams” wrote one, while another said he was the ‘perfect choice’ for the showpiece event.
“Big enough, cheesy enough, camp enough, cheeky enough. Everyone knows the words,” they wrote.
