Australia’s Matildas Olympic football team have snuck through into the quarter-finals the hard way, but a draw won’t cut it this time around in a do-or-die clash with Great Britain on Friday night.
After their uneventful stalemate with the Olympic favourites, the United States, Matildas qualified as one of the two best third-placed teams to set up a thrilling clash with the British squad, who achieved top spot in Group E. The Australians are just three wins away from a gold medal as Olympic glory becomes more and more realistic.
What time are the Matildas playing tonight?
The Australians are scheduled to take on Great Britain at 6pm local time in Kashima, which means the opening whistle will sound at 7pm AEST in Australia. For those on the Western side of the country, that’s a 5pm AWST kick-off.
How to watch the Australian Matildas vs Great Britain?
Both Channel 7 and 7plus have exclusive rights to the Olympics coverage and, therefore, they are the only places you can legally watch the Games.
As it currently stands, Channel 7 advertises that Matildas vs Great Britain will be broadcast on 7Two. However, don’t fret if you can’t find it there as the broadcaster often toggles between different events. In which case, the match will likely be on 7’s main free-to-air channel, which is 70 in metro areas.
If you’d prefer to have more control and live stream the Matildas game, you can watch Australia on 7plus for free online. 7plus offers an app for android and mac devices by downloading through the appropriate app store but can also be accessed directly online. Most smart TVs also allow you to reach the Olympic streaming service by searching for 7plus on your TV’s app page.
On the app you can choose between the Channel Seven commentary of Brenton Speed, or a world feed with a neutral commentator.
