Ikonomidis winner sends Victory into A-League grand final

Macarthur FC have granted Daniel Arzani a release from the final year of his contract, with the forgotten Socceroos winger expected to join A-League Men rivals Melbourne Victory for the 2023/24 season.
The Bulls announced on Friday that the 24-year-old had approached the club seeking an exit after one season with Macarthur, who finished bottom of the ALM ladder in April following the mid-season exit of coach Dwight Yorke.
Arzani returned to the A-League Men’s with Macarthur from Manchester City last year with hopes of securing a spot in the Australia squad for the 2022 World Cup but missed out on selection.
The winger represented the Socceroos at the 2018 World Cup as a 19-year-old but has fallen way down the pecking order as a result of poor form and injuries.
His most recent international appearance came in a friendly against Kuwait in October 2018.
Arzani had a mixed season back in Australia and finished the year on the sidelines after undergoing an ankle operation.
“We wish Daniel the best of fortunes in his future endeavours and thank him for his efforts,” Bulls chief executive Sam Krslovic said.
Arzani had been linked with a move to Tony Popovic’s Victory earlier in the week, as the Melbourne side looks to chart a course up the ladder after a disappointing campaign.
Victory finished 11th after a season overshadowed by the infamous pitch invasion by unruly supporters during the derby match with Melbourne City.
