Roar Rookie
Maybe not as strong a side as Victoria or Western Australia but Tasmania will punch well above their weight in my hypothetical AFL State of Origin. With exciting talent like Jeremy Howe and Jack Reiwoldt, what’s not to like about Tassie.
The High Flyer and the Coleman Medallist: Howe and Reiwoldt spearhead this line-up and will be clunking them a lot, if they can’t mark then small forward Ian Callinan should get the crumbs.
There is however a lack of midfield firepower. The Tassie Devils are missing a genuine superstar midfielder, because of this Grant Birchall who normally plays off half back gets a gig in the midfield.
Jackson Thurlow and Jesse Lonergan are in their first year of AFL football and find themselves in my Tasmanian Origin side.
The line-up
FB: Tim Mohr, Nathan Grima, Sam Darley
HB: Sam Iles, Colin Garland, Jackson Thurlow
C: Ryan Harwood, Jesse Lonergan, Sam Lonergan
HF: Mitch Robinson, Jeromy Howe, Aaron Cornelius
FF: Ian Callinan, Jack Reiwoldt, Jesse Crichton
Foll: Tom Bellchambers, Grant Birchall, Josh Green
INT: Justin Sherman, Luke Russell, Liam Jones, Jacob Gilbee (sub)
The Verdict: Tasmania will not be able to compete with the big three sides in Western Australia, Victoria and South Australia but should be able to push the NSW/ACT side and the Queensland/NT sides.
