Cricket Australia has pocketed $397,000 after finishing second on the annual Test rankings.
The International Cricket Council (ICC) on Wednesday handed out the winners’ cheques based on teams’ rankings at the April 1 cut-off date.
South Africa, who held onto the world No.1 spot for a second straight year, collected $510,000, while India banked $284,000 and England $171,000 for ending the season third and fourth respectively.
Australia’s payment received a $113,000 boost thanks to their victory over South Africa in the third Test at Cape Town to secure a 2-1 series win.
The result attracted four ratings points to leapfrog Australia ahead of India.
ICC chief executive David Richardson congratulated the Proteas for their efforts in retaining the top ranking in what was a “interesting, competitive and high-profile series”.
“With the top eight Test sides closely matched, and every side aiming to claim the coveted No.1 Test position, I’m looking forward to another exciting, challenging and competitive season, which will go on to strengthen Test crickets reputation as the most enduring and respected format,” Richardson said.
