The Brumbies are chasing former coach Jake White for a claimed $25,000 after the South African broke his contract with the Super Rugby franchise last year.
A Brumbies spokesman on Tuesday confirmed there was a legal proceeding taking place against their former coach after he walked out on them for the Sharks last year.
“Yes there is a legal dispute with Jake White but as it’s before the courts we won’t be commenting further on the matter,” the spokesman said.
Under White’s four-year agreement with the Brumbies, he was not allowed to coach another Super Rugby side until the end of 2015.
Upon violating that agreement after just two years, White triggered a non-complete clause and owed the Brumbies an amount approaching $200,000.
It’s understood the majority of that amount has been paid by the Sharks – yet about $25,000 is still outstanding.
Earlier this year, White made a snide jibe at Waratahs coach Michael Cheika for being invoiced $700 by the Brumbies after he broke a glass panel in their stadium’s coaching box.
White may find his joke a whole lot less funny now that his former club the Brumbies is chasing him for $25,000 – 35 times the price of a broken window – for a broken contract.
The Sharks have been approached for comment.
