The Asian Cup will return to East Asia in 2023 with China, South Korea, Indonesia and Thailand confirmed as the four bidders for the event.
China is considered the frontrunner for the event, hosted by champions Australia in January 2015, given its huge investment in football.
The Chinese Super League saw hundreds of millions of dollars worth of investment in new players in the off-season, part of a competition-wide strategy to become one of the richest football leagues in the world.
China has never won the continental competition, last hosting in 2004.
South Korea, beaten by Australia in the final last year, has not hosted or won the competition since 1960.
Thailand, which like China and South Korea progressed to the third phase of World Cup qualifying, hosted as part of a four-country South-East Asian tournament in 2007.
Indonesia is currently banned from all international competition placed by FIFA but has also put its hand up to host.
The next iteration of the tournament takes place in United Arab Emirates in 2019, where it expands to 24 teams.
Zayed Sports City Stadium in Abu Dhabi will host the opening match and final.
Australia has already qualified for the 2019 tournament after winning its World Cup qualifying group, which doubled as qualifiers for the continental competition.
