A man-of-the-match performance from Australia’s Aaron Mooy has steered Huddersfield to a 2-1 win over Norwich and moved the Terriers to third spot in the English second-tier competition.
Elias Kachunga’s first-half double gave Huddersfield deserved win against fellow the promotion chasers but it was Socceroos midfielder Mooy who picked up the prize from Sky TV as the best player on the pitch in the Championship clash.
The victory was Huddersfield’s first at Carrow Road since 1969, something manager David Wagner attempted to play down as his side made it three straight wins.
“To be fair, I think now in this season we had a few of these headlines. I don’t know how many years it was since we won at Newcastle away or drew with Aston Villa,” Wagner said.
“To win three games in a row is the first time we have taken nine points in one week, like this. At the beginning of the season I said we don’t talk about targets.
“We don’t give ourselves a limit. That makes no sense. We have no limits. We only like to make sure we are focused on our identity and ourselves.”
Kachunga’s early header was cancelled out almost immediately by Jonny Howson but the Terriers quickly recovered their composure and dominated the opening period.
They hit the lead four minutes before the halftime break through Kachunga.
The Canaries, who had won their previous two home games without conceding, improved after the break but could find no way back as their stylish opponents saw out the game to make it three straight victories.
According to Sky Sports, Mooy had the most passes (68) and touches (98) on the park in a busy night for the 26-year-old.
