Aussies leapfrog India in rankings despite neither team playing, Starc returns to form in IPL

Virat Kohli poses the most dangerous threat to the Australian cricket team this summer.
He showed some promise in the recent warm-up game against the Cricket Australia XI where he made 60-odd in the first innings. He is currently ranked the best batsmen in the world and it will take some well-executed plans to have him not score a ton this summer, which Australian quick Pat Cummins said would be his dream scenario earlier in the year.
Former skipper Ricky Ponting has predicted Australia to take out the series 2 – 1, saying Australia’s batting will be better with Usman Khawaja outscoring Kohli. Much lies on the shoulders of India’s controversial superstar, as it is up to him to be his side’s main contributor given Indian batsmen are renowned for failing on Australia’s quicker, faster decks.
Not only will Kohli be up against the best bowling attack in the world, but he has also made himself a public enemy to Australian punters. He infamously showed his middle finger to the Sydney crowd in 2012 and in 2017 made it clear he doesn’t have any time for the Australian players following the side’s tour of India.
Although Kohli is known for standing up under pressure, this tour may be his toughest yet as a batsman. He struggled against Australia’s bowling attack last time these two teams met during that series on the subcontinent, averaging under ten over the four Tests. He has the responsibility of carrying India’s batsmen.
It is probably his biggest challenge yet, to succeed he will have to be in some form and be resilient to the criticism he will cop from the Australian public.
We are certainly in for a thrilling Test series this summer, and like many other these two teams have met in, we are sure to see plenty of arguments on and off the field.
Ultimately, Virat Kohli will decide whether Australia will win or lose this series.
