Wicketkeeper Matthew Wade believes Australia have the fast bowling firepower to trouble England’s in-form top order in their five-match one-day series starting on Friday at Lord’s.
England have won their past six one-day series on home soil since Australia crushed them 6-1 following the 2009 Ashes series.
The hosts have boasted a century maker in their past six one-day internationals with captain Alastair Cook scoring three of those hundreds and an 80 during that period.
However Wade believes the resurgent pace attack of world No.1 Australia could trouble the likes of Cook and Ian Bell.
“We have three or four blokes who bowl over 150km/h so it has been a bit of a nightmare in the past few weeks facing those guys in the nets,” he said.
“I think we have the firepower to counter those guys.”
The fast bowling attack has serious pace in the form of Brett Lee, Pat Cummins, James Pattinson and Mitchell Johnson while Clint McKay and Ben Hilfenhaus add guile and swing to the mix.
“In any one-day international team your top two or three players are really important – if they are scoring hundreds generally they are going to win games,” Wade said.
“Hence their (England’s) record is outstanding at the moment.
“We have to find a way to dismiss those guys.”
Australia are set to enjoy an early look at Cook in their warm-up match against Essex in Chelmsford starting at 2pm (2300 AEST) on Tuesday.
After having their opening tour matches in Leicester and Belfast disrupted by rain, the weather bureau is forecasting clear conditions in Essex for Tuesday’s day-night fixture.

A whirlwind opening partnership from David Warner and Travis Head and a miserly spell from Adam Zampa have led Australia to a commanding 36-run…
A lot of baton-passing in this fielding howler!
"The umpire's just saying 'the bowler bowled it, you played it, tapped it back, dot ball, get on with the game'!"
"If the toss is anything to come by, we're in trouble today!"
Bison very fortunate it's him and not Pat Cummins captaining the Australian T20 side!
