The AFL free agency and trade period began on Friday, October 5, and saw a large number of players and draft picks swap clubs.
The free agency period was the first player movement period, starting on October 5 and running for one week. The trade period itself began on Monday, October 8 and ran until 8:30pm on Wednesday, October 17.
Clubs are free to swap draft picks right up until the week before the 2018 AFL draft, which takes place on Thursday, November 22. Delisted players are also free to sign with other clubs until the final list lodgment on November 27.
Reece Conca joined the Fremantle Dockers as an unrestricted free agent.
Luke Dahlhaus joined the Geelong Cats as an unrestricted free agent. The Western Bulldogs received pick 25 in compensation.
Tom J Lynch joined the Richmond Tigers as a restricted free agent. The Gold Coast Suns received pick 3 in compensation.
Scott Lycett joined the Port Adelaide Power as a restricted free agent. The West Coast Eagles received pick 20 in compensation.
Alex Fasolo joined the Carlton Blues as an unrestricted free agent. Collingwood received pick 57 in compensation.
Lincoln McCarthy was traded along with picks 54 and 57 from the Geelong Cats to the Brisbane Lions in exchange for pick 42 and pick 60.
Anthony Miles and Corey Ellis were traded along with Richmond’s 2019 third-round pick from the Richmond Tigers to the Gold Coast Suns in exchange for Gold Coast’s 2019 third-round pick.
Pick 42 was traded from the Geelong Cats to the Carlton Blues in exchange for the rights to pre-list one mature state league player. Geelong signed Nathan Kreuger from the SANFL.
Picks 24, 58 and 79 were traded from the Brisbane Lions to the Gold Coast Suns in exchange for picks 32, 41, 44 and 77.
Mitch McGovern was traded along with a 2019 third-round draft pick from the Adelaide Crows to the Carlton Blues in exchange for a 2019 fifth-round draft pick and Shane McAdam, a mature SANFL player. As part of this three-way deal, the Sydney Swans sent pick 13 to Adelaide in exchange for pick 40, while Carlton sent picks 26 and 28 to the Swans.
Jared Polec and Jasper Pittard were traded along with pick 48 from the Port Adelaide Power to the North Melbourne Kangaroos in exchange for pick 11 and a 2019 fourth-round pick.
Gary Rohan was traded from the Sydney Swans to the Geelong Cats, Ryan Clarke was traded from the North Melbourne Kangaroos to the Sydney Swans, and pick 61 was traded from the Geelong Cats to the North Melbourne Kangaroos.
Tom Hickey was traded along with pick 60 and a 2019 fourth-round pick from the St Kilda Saints to the West Coast Eagles in exchange for pick 39 and a 2019 fourth-round pick.
Pick 6 and a 2019 third-round draft pick were traded from the Fremantle Dockers to the Port Adelaide Power in exchange for picks 11, 23, 30 and 49.
Dan Hannebery was traded along with pick 28 from the Sydney Swans to the St Kilda Saints in exchange for pick 39 and St Kilda’s 2019 second-round pick.
Dean Kent was traded from the Melbourne Demons to the St Kilda Saints in exchange for pick 65.
Braydon Preuss was traded along with pick 62 from the North Melbourne Kangaroos to the Melbourne Demons in exchange for Dom Tyson.
Will Setterfield was traded along with pick 71 to the Carlton Blues for pick 43 and Carlton’s 2019 second-round pick.
Sam Lloyd was traded from the Richmond Tigers to the Western Bulldogs in exchange for pick 64.
Aaron Hall was traded from the Gold Coast Suns to North Melbourne in exchange for pick 68.
Pick 68 was traded from the Gold Coast Suns to the Adelaide Crows in exchange for a future fourth-round draft pick.
Jack Scrimshaw was traded alongside Gold Coast’s 2019 fourth-round draft pick from the Gold Coast Suns to the Hawthorn Hawks in exchange for Hawthorn’s 2019 third-round draft pick.
Tom Scully was traded from the GWS Giants to the Hawthorn Hawks in exchange for Hawthorn’s 2019 fourth-round draft pick.
Taylor Duryea was traded from the Hawthorn Hawks to the Western Bulldogs in exchange for the Bulldogs’ 2019 fourth-round draft pick.
Hawthorn traded Ryan Burton, pick 15, pick 35 and a 2019 fourth-round pick (Bulldogs) to Port Adelaide for Chad Wingard and a 2019 third-round pick (Port Adelaide).
