The 2023 Trade Period is up and running, with a number of players already finding new homes for the 2024 season and more set to follow. Join The Roar for a live blog and rolling coverage of the day’s news, rumours and action from 9am (AEDT).
While we’re yet to see a player traded, the free agency period has been a busy one, with Adelaide’s Tom Doedee heading to Brisbane and North Melbourne veteran Todd Goldstein joining Essendon.
That along with several pick swaps, including the Western Bulldogs trading a swathe of picks for Gold Coast’s pick 4, was the sum of the deals completed on the opening day, but several major trade requests have also landed.
The biggest of the bunch was Fremantle goalsneak Lachie Schultz seeking a trade to reigning premiers Collingwood; under contract for 2024 but set to become an unrestricted free agent at season’s end, the Dockers have a major dilemma on their hands.
Port Adelaide wingman Xavier Duursma has also requested a trade to Essendon, while the Bombers is also the expected destination for St Kilda midfielder Jade Gresham, with the Saints weighing up whether to match the Dons’ offer.
