It’s finally here! Deadline Day, the last day of the AFL trade period has arrived, and clubs have less than 12 hours to finalise any deals involving players in this year’s trades. Join The Roar for live news updates and a blog, starting from 9am AEDT.
There’s three big trades that we’re waiting to find out whether or not they’ll happen today after appearing to be in some kind of doubt at pretty much every stage so far.
Brad Hill is one that has seemed hard to get done for a long time, but the Saints and Dockers have reportedly agreed to a deal that will see Hill join the Saints some time today.
It’s expected that Fremantle will get pick 10 in this year’s draft, St Kilda’s 2020 second-round pick, and possibly Blake Acres from the Saints.
Less clear is the future of Tom Papley who is still waiting for Carlton to strike a deal with his club, the Sydney Swans.
Still, it appears likely that Papley will get to the Blues for pick 9, and probably some more swaps around that, but it could depend on the Joe Daniher deal.
Sydney and Essendon still remain reportedly some distance apart of the biggest deal of the trade period, and many n the media have expressed genuine doubt that it will get done.
My gut says it all three deals will make it through before the deadline… but I’m not confident! It could be a tight finish before the trade deadline at 7:30pm AEDT.
Other names still in limbo today include Josh Jenkins, Alex Keath, Tom Cutler, Lewis Taylor, Andrew Phillips, James Aish, Rupert Wills, Zac Smith, Callum Ah Chee, Jack Martin, Aiden Bonar, Marc Pittonet, Sam Gray, Dan Butler, Connor Menadue, Josh Bruce and Zak Jones.
We may see more trades done today than on any other day in AFL history! Join The Roar for live news updates and a blog, starting from 9am AEDT.
