Show Preview

Brisbane and Port Adelaide have a home preliminary final on the line when they lock horns at the Gabba for the last match of finals week one. Join The Roar for live scores from 7:25pm (AEST).

The goal has been achieved for the Lions, with home ground advantage in the finals secured and the daunting thought of travelling north to the Gabba prominent in the minds of the other teams. The ground is simply a 19th man and one at which the home side rarely loses.

Port head there after a 17-win season that saw them finish third on the AFL ladder, but they will need to produce an almost perfect performance to win against a team with serious flag aspirations.

Team news sees the Lions fit and healthy, with Lincoln McCarthy back into the side as Jarrod Lyons makes way. Port have Todd Marshall and Scott Lycett back into the 22, a boost for the big men stocks, with Travis Boak likely to be the sub.

Prediction

All the talk will be of home ground advantage, and that is indeed real. However, Port will be seeking a performance for the ages on the road and a spot in the final four.

Can they do it? Of course they can. 2023 has seen them display newfound resilience, and as the young stars develop into seasoned players, no team can dismiss them.

However, the Lions are simply brilliant on their home deck and as long as they arrive with the intensity required and avoid poor kicking from Joe Daniher and Eric Hipwood up front, they should have the edge in what looks a terrific encounter on paper.
