The GWS Giants and the Brisbane Lions meet in the final match of Round 16 at Sydney Olympic Park. Join The Roar for live scores and commentary from 4:40pm (AEST).

With a spot in the top four up for grabs for the winner of this match, the classy Giants and the over-achieving Lions will slog it out on what looks like being a fine and clear Sunday afternoon.

With a recent patch of inconsistent form and a surprise loss to the Bombers at Marvel Stadium last weekend, GWS need to get back on track, quickly. With the top two careering off into the distance, a secure spot in the four will depend upon their form over the next month and their ability to rediscover some of the consistent footy they played earlier in the season.

Shane Mumford is out for the home side after some patchy performances over the last month yet they are boosted by the return of Lachie Whitfield who will add some much need spark to their attack. The Lions trumped the Demons last week and have won three from their last four heading into this afternoon’s clash.

Brisbane also go in without a ruckman in the form of Oscar McInerney yet appear to have finally unlocked the secret to Charlie Cameron, who looks like the most dangerous forward player in the AFL at this point in time. Combating his presence will be key for the Giants, as Cameron appears almost unstoppable when in full flight.

The Lions will face their own challenges down back, with Harry Himmelberg, Jeremy Cameron and Toby Greene forming one of the most lethal three-pronged attacks in the competition. With Josh Kelly servicing all three, the scoring potential of GWS is considerable.

Prediction
The Giants always play their home ground well and should prove too strong for the Lions today. It should be tight however, with Chris Fagan’s men showing greater resilience in 2019 and the Giants often finding it difficult to put teams to the sword when given the opportunity.
GWS by three goals.
