This is what we play for – the 2020 AFL grand final between the Richmond Tigers and Geelong Cats gets underway, with the winner crowned premiers. Join The Roar for live scores and commentary from 7:30pm (AEDT).

Richmond are looking to make it three flags in four years after saluting in 2019 and 2017. The Tigers finished third on the ladder and came into the finals on a seven-game winning streak, but lost their qualifying final to Brisbane. Undeterred, the reigning premiers made light work of St Kilda in the semi-final, before edging Port Adelaide in the preliminary final to reach the decider.

Geelong, on the other hand, are looking to claim their first flag since 2011 – Chris Scott’s first season in charge. Notorious for finals failures in recent years, the Cats got back to the decider having lost their qualifying final to the Power, crushing Collingwood and the Lions in their other finals to get back to the decider.

The Tigers have an excellent recent record against Geelong, defeating them in five of their last six meetings. This includes finals wins in 2017 and 2019, as well as this year’s home-and-away meeting. These clubs have met in two grand finals, with Geelong winning in 1931 and Richmond winning in 1967.
