The Western Bulldogs and Richmond Tigers face off in Round 7 AFL action at Marvel Stadium. Join The Roar for live scores and commentary from 7:25pm (AEST).

On the back of four losses in succession, the Western Bulldogs face the prospect of slipping further down the ladder should they fail to take four points from their clash with the Tigers tonight.

Their much lauded midfield has failed to live up to pre-season expectations and the wins against Sydney and Hawthorn in the opening fortnight of the competition now feel light years away.

Richmond have had the most disturbed and interrupted start to 2019 of any AFL squad, yet managed to scrape through to this point without significant damage.

A win here would be their fifth of the season and potentially move them into the top four. That would be something of a remarkable achievement considering the injuries that have beset them thus far.

Now David Astbury joins the injured brigade for the Tigers; a group that already includes top liners Trent Cotchin (hamstring), Jack Riewoldt (knee), Jack Graham (hamstring) and Shaun Grigg (knee, hip).

Throw in the season-ending knee injury to Alex Rance and the merit of Richmond’s current position on the ladder is enunciated even further.

It is a day for Lachie Hunter, Tom Liberatore, Jason Johannisen and Marcus Bontempelli to fire in the midfield for the Bulldogs.

Another loss here might prove fatal to their top eight aspirations and would continue a run of poor form that has the fans frustrated and the coaching staff searching for answers.

Prediction
As depleted, busted and makeshift as the Tigers may appear, the names that do take to the field remind everyone of just how deep their squad actually is.

The system Damien Hardwick uses allows for replacements to slot in seamlessly; with players simply asked to fulfil a role in the overall pattern of play. It has worked well for the Tigers so far in 2019 and will continue to work in this clash.

In fact, I feel the Bulldogs may sputter their way through another disappointing match at Marvel Stadium, with Richmond likely to score heavily.
