Maybe, but I still think that benefits a team doing illegal plays to take a player out.
The 18th man should be triggered upon foul play. It takes away the gamesmanship from the coaches. And hopefully it takes away the incentive to take out the opposition.
I highly doubt Penrith are doing this on purpose, but I’d be putting on some helmets if I played for the Roosters (just jokes Panthers fans, I know you lot are sensitive)

'If the NRL are serious about concussions, where does this sit?' Kevvie fires up after May escapes ban for Walsh's fracture

Maybe I’m missing something, but isn’t that why the 18th man is there. I don’t really understand why Eels and Broncos weren’t allowed to bring on the 18th man since both injuries were caused by illegal contact to the head.

This State based mentality has been one of the big killers of the Wallabies over the past 20 years. Commentators, selectors, coaches, etc. all need to forego their State-based bias and focus on choosing the best team available with the right set of combinations from club level.

'Talent can be fickle': Schmidt avoids rushing to conclusions as JOC calls for 'Reds-heavy' Wallabies

Did you really just say that Ilias is only playing because he is Greek?

No.1 gun in NRL: Reece is the word at Broncos as star fullback rips Rabbitohs to shreds with lightning quick attack

I’ve made a pact with myself to not get drawn into these referee arguments this year. It’s NRL 360 and Fox Sports yuckiness and degrades the game in general.
But, as usual, I disagree with you mate. Except for Souths being woeful.

What the heck is Euan Aitken doing in second row instead of Kenny B?

My take echoes your last paragraph. We really shouldn’t be encouraging our kids to bully and discriminate based on skin colour, despite the formal definition of racism.
Words still hurt. Especially to kids. I was at a school camp when I was in primary school, I can’t remember where exactly. I was bullied quite severely by the indigenous kids and called all sorts of white so and so names. Did it hurt? Yes. Does it fit the definition of racism? No.

'I am really sorry': Leniu cops HUGE ban as NRL judiciary hands down verdict for ‘monkey’ racial abuse at Mam

Or, people could simply stop being purposefully offensive to others. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but that doesn’t mean everyone needs to voice it, especially when it’s voiced with an intent to cause harm rather than banter.
Banter = the playful and friendly exchange of teasing remarks.

'I am really sorry': Leniu cops HUGE ban as NRL judiciary hands down verdict for ‘monkey’ racial abuse at Mam

It’s pretty clear that Mam is not Leniu’s friend, and it’s pretty clear that Leniu meant the slur to be offensive when he said it.

Even if Leniu had called him the n-word, if it had been said on the field you can absolutely guarantee that it wasn’t meant in the it’s cool he’s my mate style, because they clearly are not mates. It would have been meant as a racially influenced insult.
Anyway, Mundine raised a straw-man argument to excuse the behaviour between people of colour, and completely disregards the fact that a) it was meant to be insulting, and b) they aren’t the same race.

Shock twist in racism saga as Mam responds to Leniu's apology for monkey taunt

I find this desire to be as strongly offensive as possible, a bit much.

Stay away from Facebook or Twitter then mate. It’s getting ugly.

‘Fun and games, banter’: Leniu response to racial allegation beggars belief as ‘heat of the battle’ mentality harms NRL yet again

I’m absolutely disgusted by the amount of people in Australian society who are making excuses for this behaviour. It’s not OK. The fact that Ezra Mam didn’t think it was OK is all you need to know. We have a long way to go 😔

My biggest concern from that game was that the pack got dominated in a very similar way to the Grand Final. The skinnier field nullified the sweeping backline plays for the most part. The outside backs need to do a better job helping out with yardage.
Losing Piakura so early in the game obviously didn’t help. Patty was a bit of a liability on the edge. I would’ve liked to have seen Xavier Willison on the bench.
Anyway, no need for panic stations. Most teams don’t have a forward pack that can get on top like Roosters did.

'Outplayed': Was Brisbane's Vegas disaster a blip, or are the lights just too bright for the Broncos?

It’s not our fault that St George can’t play 😛

'Lying is a sin': To'o takes aim at Wardle, referee 'making assumptions' with contentious try as Wigan upset Panthers

It’s no surprise to me that NSW won Game 3 in State of Origin with Jake Turbo in the starting line-up (as prop).
I am pretty sure most of his penalties and six-agains are strategic.

NRL Round 1 predicted teams: Manly Sea Eagles - Schuster's fitness battles continue as Seibold faces crucial season

To be fair, they also hyped him up in the first place to the point where he was able to sign for a reported $800k per season.

You can’t drop Collins!
I would have Carrigan as lock, Yeo on the bench, and keep Murray on the edge. Any combination of those three works though – Yeo was excellent for NSW in Game 3 when his role was simplified.

'Wake-up call': Is it time for a complete Kangaroos team overhaul after New Zealand 'capitulation'?

I’m not sure I have a kind word to say of any of them. Collectively and individually poor across the board. I’ve never seen a more inept performance from a Kangaroos team. They didn’t show up and they didn’t seem to care.

Madge-ic: Kiwis 'shock the rugby league world' as Maguire masterclass hands Kangaroos record defeat

Am I the only one who thinks Manu is severely overrated? If I’m picking a centre who doesn’t pass, I’d take Herbie Farnworth over Manu any day of the week.

Smart Signings: Manu would be great for the Dragons - but Flanno has to find Ben Hunt a partner first

They’re an amazing front pairing, but that stat isn’t entirely true.
Leota went off at 24:48. Panthers score a penalty at 29:30. JFH goes off at 32:23.
Leota came back on at 49:59. JFH came back on at 53:56. Broncos score 6 points at 54:49.
Leota went off at 74:12. Panthers score 6 points at 76:37.
So, it was 18-6 when both Leota and JFH were on the field. 26-6 when JFH was on the field.

The second battle between JFH/Leota and Haas/Carrigan next weekend is mouth watering.

Maguire should knock back Blues unless they bump up paltry Origin offer to put his head on the chopping block

I really love the balance in this Kangaroos team. The starting forwards are brilliant, and then you have Cotter, Carrigan, and Collins coming off the bench making huge impact. The Hunt/Grant combination is always effective. Hammer and Staggs were absolute machines in the centres. Staggs in particular looks like he really gelled with DCE and was playing with a smile on his face, which was great to see.

Well done Samoa. It was always going to be a bit of a struggle missing so many quality players. Crichton continues to impress as a player. Faalago, Leilua, and Tuilagi were also very good. Tago was really poor defensively – he needs to get surgery I think.

ANALYSIS: Hammer's solo stunner delivers win for Kangaroos - but Faalogo steals the show

Literally says in the article: “South Sydney, Mitchell’s club, were quick to point out that the demands on his injury from guest-starring in a friendly tournament were a little different from over a month of training and then playing in Test football. That’s correct.”

Don't blame Latrell for picking the Koori Knockout over the Kangaroos - ask why the Roos brand is so devalued

Well not quite the result I was hoping for but hats off to the Panthers and especially Nathan Cleary. He decided he was going to win that game and he dragged them across the finish line. Very impressive. He’s had his best season and continues to improve, which is a testament to his professionalism.

Ezra Mam and Payne Haas were incredible for the Broncos. Can’t wait until Mam is the Australian five eighth playing next to Cleary. They will be brilliant together.

Very proud of the mighty Broncos. What a great season. Congratulations Panthers fans – your team is exceptional.

‘We took ‘trust the process’ to the absolute extreme’: How incredible Penrith comeback looked from on the field

I honestly think JFH and Leota are the key players in the team. The Panthers still manage to win without Cleary or Luai. I highly doubt that would happen if their forward pack was absent.
Also, as a biased Broncos fan, the Fish is the man. What a beast of a player. Really looking forward to watching him live today.
