Johnno…I think you but more effort in the reply than I did in the article. Great stuff! Definitely agree that Thomas should have been on the dream team. Personality shouldn’t have been an issue. He’s one of the greatest point guards of all time so leaving him off was a massive slight

Magic versus Michael: Part II

Hey Dave, don’t shoot the messenger. I’m just responding to unnamed officials and a wsw fan spokesperson. As for truth, it’s definitely high on my priority list. I just haven’t decided if its absolute truth or relative truth I’m interested in!

Wanderers must show some respect

oikee…let’s be fair mate. It’s not Ray’s fault both his parents took a flogging from the ugly stick when they were kids. And we can’t fault the sculpturer. He can only work with what’s standing in front of him. It’s not like they signed Michelangelo to carve something from scratch.

We shouldn’t start judging on looks either…God knows we’ve given Fatty, Alfie and Martin Bella a fair go!

Love your idea of the Sterlo statue, although this needs to be expanded to a statue in front of every stadium in the country…goodness knows he owned every stadium he played in.

Thumbs up Purple…nice to get the statue’s perspective. He’s more eloquent than most footy players so it’s a refreshing change.

Sh#t yeah…Bruce Lee and Airplane. If that’s not the most impressive CV out there I’m not here

Was Magic better than Michael?

Agree mushi. The Johnson move had impact on so many other trades/signing. If that doesn’t go down maybe D-Will goes to the Mavs, which convinces Kidd to stay. Coupled with a few moves Dallas has made and you’re looking at them getting back in the conversation. Also, if Williams bolts from Brooklyn do the Nets still rank highest on Dwight’s list? Does he want Gerald Wallace as his number 2, or is he suddenly looking over at LaLa Land and imagining playing pick and roll with Nash? Massive ripple effect.

I still can’t believe the Bynum for Howard trade hasn’t gone down. Is this a no-brainer or what?

What's the biggest NBA trade so far?

It astounds me that Kareem doesn’t ever seriously enter the conversation. His career, crossing the span of high school, college and the NBA is phenomenal.

6× NBA Champion (1971, 1980, 1982, 1985, 1987–1988)
6× NBA Most Valuable Player (1971–1972, 1974, 1976–1977, 1980)
19× NBA All-Star (1970–1977, 1979–1989)
2× NBA Finals MVP (1971, 1985)
10× All-NBA First Team (1971–1974, 1976–1977, 1980–1981, 1984, 1986)
5× All-NBA Second Team (1970, 1978–1979, 1983, 1985)
5× NBA All-Defensive First Team (1974–1975, 1979–1981)
6× NBA All-Defensive Second Team (1970–1971, 1976–1978, 1984)
2× NBA scoring champion (1971, 1972)
NBA Rookie of the Year (1970)
NBA All-Rookie Team (1970)
NBA’s 50th Anniversary All-Time Team
3× NCAA Men’s Basketball Champion (1967–1969)
3× NCAA Basketball Tournament MOP (1967–1969)
Naismith College Player of the Year (1969)
2× USBWA College Player of the Year (1967–1968)

There was no-one in the league that was an automatic two points like Kareem. He was also a solid defender, amazing athlete, could knock down free throws, and nearly kicked Bruce Lee’s ass. End of story

Was Magic better than Michael?

Not a bad play by Kearney. The guy who arrives at the party late has to power drink to catch up to his mates. This usually means he’s wiped out before everyone else, and ends up cracking onto the girl with the most ‘personality’. While his mates are laughing at him and bombing out with the hot girls, he’s having the time of his life in a dark corner with his hands very full. Giddy-up

Parramatta's late arrivals aren't fashionable

Excellent…anything that reminds me that Arsene helped put Arsenal on their Arse puts a smile on my face!

All jokes aside. As a tactician Wenger’s fault is his inability to adjust to what the opposition gives him, but his dedication to playing a certain style, which is aesthetically the most enjoyable football in the EPL, earns respect. Brilliant evaluator of talent. Fallible like all humans (see Francis Jeffers), he’s got a fantastic track record of turning relative unknowns or talented youth into world class footballers.

He’s even better at selling them off for a profit so if Wenger ever wants to change careers, he’d be great in real estate.

Still can’t get over Viera for 3.5 mill. Amazing bit of work. Probably not in the Eric Djembe Djembe league for value buys, but not bad nonetheless.

Wenger must change his tune for Arsenal to succeed

That just made my day! Well bowled mushi, well bowled

A points system for Origin eligibility

Great idea CC, but let’s get more interactive by offering fans the power of veto. Imagine a football club exec – call him Ray Spagnoli. If he’s making overpriced bids for players who can’t walk and chew gum at the same time, fans at home can SMS a veto to block the purchase. Give power to the people I say

NRL trade window needs to advertise the goods

Cheers k77…the only thing I’ve got to say about Tomic is that no man in history with the given name Bernard has ever been deemed a sex symbol, and there’s no reason to start now!

The 50 shades of Andy Murray

A points system is a great idea, but I think we really have to redefine the criteria:

1. Your favourite beer is XXXX – Minus 15 points
2. You live in a pole home – Minus 5 points
3. You’re unaware of fuel injection – Minus 10 points
4. Your dog lives in your ute – Minus 5 points
5. One Nation is top of your two party preferred system – Minus 50 points

Anyone in the minus is a QLDer

Interesting thought Jimbo. Farah’s kicking game was far better than Pearce’s, offering real creativity and penetration. Unfortunately this idea leaves a gaping hole at the number 9, and we don’t exactly have a long line up of world class hookers knocking down the door for a slice of action…well at least not the league type of hooker!!!

State of Origin III: the hits and misses

Um, um…I’d take a shot but seeing as I’ve got the mental age of a 7 year old, I might need some more clues!

Seven worked really well, but I think you’ll struggle with eight and nine in the coming years.

The Origin of the Queenslander

For a guy who looks as if Michelangelo chiseled him from marble, Dwight is without doubt the flakiest ‘superstar’ in the NBA. The guy seriously changes his mind more often than my wife changes outfits before a night out. The play for Dwight should be simple. Push to be traded to the Lakers for Andrew Bynum. Dwight then joins a team with Kobe, Gasol and Nash. That’s a heck of a foursome. The Lakers could even trade Gasol to Houston for Scola and Kevin Martin or Lowry. Dwight would immediately be part of a championship calibre team, and be really well placed to take over Laker-land once Kobe self destructs

Howard replaces LeBron as NBA villain

Purple Shag…I’m confused. I thought we would have been a great shot to win if Mitch Pearce played last night, yet you’re telling me he was on the field. Bizarre.

Realistically – to lose by a single point when you’re halves combination is so devoid of any tactical kicking game and capacity to improvise with the ball isn’t a bad effort. I reckon next year we drop Carney and Mitch, draft in two extra backrowers (there’s plenty of them out there) and let Glenn Stewart and Greg Bird play in the halves. Couldn’t do much worse I say

Queensland success is Hangin' With Mr Cooper

I was hanging out for the nastiness…can’t believe you held back. Still, I reckon if Mitchell Pearce played we would have won! What? He did play!?!?! Bugger me.

Couldn’t agree with you more Gaz. GD started things off on the right track, but it fell away pretty quickly. Hopefully the Blues don’t follow suit tonight

McRath – I have no defense against the Watmough and Stewart argument. And as a Parra fan I know first hand that while Hayne is great with ‘yeah’ and ‘nah’, he struggles with the two syllables involved in ‘alright’.

In saying that, we wont cry if we lose. For heavens sake we’re used to it by now. Should we win though (by the right of divine intervention)…wow…it’ll be more embarrassing for QLD than when Lara Bingle first said ‘Where the bloody hell are ya?’

Ahhh…the great island migrations. A contentious and often overlooked subject, but certainly a great driver to their success. I stand corrected
