Each year the rules of professional sports start looking more and more the same. This reminds me what happened in Rugby Union many moons ago. A really good idea, so we, the paying public, get our spectacle.

Nothing worse than a side losing because it can’t really field a side. And it’s only one, with the rotations it will balance out quickly.

Will players try and game the system – well yeah. They like winning. Just punish the obvious idiots a lot for doing it. Like points or percentage off the ladder.

Damien Hardwick backs new medical sub rule

Nice, good news.

Max Gawn re-signs with Demons until 2025

As a Dockers fan I’m hoping finals. But will wait and see – we do seem to be a club who lacks success and make up for by being overtly optimistic. Do think good signs with our draft picks and coaching staff.

Was happy with the scratch match with the Toasters, who lacked many of their stars and were soundly beaten. I worry for the toasters, so many good player, but can they keep them up and running for another year? To good a side to just crash.

What has worried me with injuries over the last few years is the severity of the injuries. Injuries which wipe players out for a year or more. Have to agree worried about the Saints again on that front. But so many clubs are having players go down in the preseason.

On the reverse of that was so happy to see Joe Danaher back, and get good some minutes into him. The other positive is Richmond, who so far have done a wonderful job managing players bodies. And on this point alone I think they will win another flag.

Oh and big thanks to author for putting his Swans piece in the comments sections. Felt incomplete without the Sydney.

Your club's burning question for 2021

Thanks for the post. I’m glad I’m not the only one over this worrying trend. And whilst the same level of nastiness didn’t happen to Ross Lyon on a personal level when he left Freo – there was a fair amount of it. The guy, like Eddie has more positive, than negative contributions to the game.

As almost non-Collingwood supporters do, I like to give your club a bit of a hard time – but that has got a bit over the top off late. The jokes and ribbing are fun and part of my love of AFL. The nastiness and personal insults to players, coaches, supporters and managers at Collingwood is not. Eddie and his departure are highlighting to me how much of shift there has been. And the game is poorer for it.

The way to rip racism out of the game is to address it with the people who play, watch, run and love the game. Not vilify one individual then bury our heads in the sand and think it’s sorted. One person is not the problem, and there is no simple fix. We need to work together on this issue, it will not be easy.

The fall and burial of Eddie McGuire

It’s great to watch. High risk, high reward football. But more importantly they are winning. Can’t wait till they play the other teams in the top 8.

Why Fremantle's style is built for AFLW success

Thanks for the post.

Totally agree with you Conca comment. Whilst I loved the job he did tagging Dusty, he had a average season, and needs to be better this year.

The Dockers have a lot of talent, but it needs quite a few players to stand up to make finals. Let alone win one.

I had hoped with a change in fitness director – our persistent injury worries would be somewhat behind us, but alas this is not the case. We have as a football club, some real brittle talent.

Sorry to sound like a broken record, the ALF is a team sport, and the best teams win. Look at Richmond, they play exceptionally well as a team. We can bang on how good Dusty is, or Bachar, or Lynch, but Richmond keeps winning because they are a bloody good team.

The harsh reality is Dockers are not their yet. But the signs are there. And if the 10 blokes you said need to step up to the next level, do indeed make that step, we make the finals – I’ll be a bloody happy man.

The order of merit: Fremantle Dockers 2021 season

Great article.

As a kiwi have to say you Aussies are over reacting a wee bit . You have a great collection of players, they just needs to play as a team. That’s how India beat you, they played better as a team. It’s how you spanked us last year – team effort.

The captain may have to go as captain, but dam he’s still a really good player. You have a lot of really great players, you just need them to remind them this is a team sport.

What should Australia’s Test cricket plan be for 2021?

With each season just getting better and better, I’ve been hanging out for this season to start. I’m so impressed with how all the players are looking this year, also very impressed we not getting the almost daily ACL (bad) news like we have for the last couple years. I can’t wait to see my Dockers run out, only a few more sleeps!!
