Stu. Mate. Have another read of what you wrote. Maybe ask your wife and daughter to read it as well. And just sit back and recognise how condescending you are all throughout it.

You may as well just have written:

“Good on ya girls for coming along to watch my sport, but you don’t know what you’re talking about. You should’ve been supporting in my way, not in your way. Anyway, off you trot back to the kitchen and the nail salon and leave the sports to the male folk”

Australian women calling for real change in football should start it by turning up to A-League matches

Like when Haddin dropped Root on 0 and he went on to make 134 in the First Test of the 2015 Ashes series. Wade won’t be the first and won’t be the last to drop a catch. And if you saw Nevill keeping in the Big Bash, then I reckon there is more chance of him missing a stumping than of Wade mising a dismissal.

What happens if Matthew Wade struggles in India?

There was deinfitley parts of a larger picture on the back in the early 80’s. I remember being in primary school and having a Gary Buckenara card which had a kind of blurry crowd show on the back. May have been 1985 or 1986

A-League collector cards are a sports rite of passage

Good stuff, Michael. Although I wonder how instructive a career FC average is compared to a current season or recent 2-3 seasons avergae?

For example:

* Last Shield season there were 21 players average 40 or more in the SS, with 16 of those playing 5 or more matches
* In 2014/15, there were 20 players average 40 or more in the SS, with 18 of those playing 5 or more matches
* In 2013/14, there were 22 players average 40 or more in the SS, with 17 of those playing 5 or more matches

If you start to look at performance over more than 1 season:

* Over the past 2 seasons, there were 24 players average 40 or more in the SS, with 14 of those playing 10 or more matches
* Over the past 3 seasons, there were 12 players average 40 or more in the SS, with each of them playing 15 or more matches

Those 12 players are:

Adam Voges (76.49)
Peter Nevill (53.76)
Callum Ferguson (53.69)
Chris Lynn (51.63)
Shaun Marsh (49.18)
Michael Klinger (48.5)
Marcus Stoinis (44.2)
Joe Burns (41.97)
Peter Handscomb (41.63)
Ed Cowan (41.38)
Rob Quiney (10.94)
Matthew Wade (40)

That would suggest that Voges, Nevill, Marsh and Burns deserve their recent selections and that if you assume that Klinger, Cowan and Quiney are too old, the next in line should be Ferguson, Lynn, Stoinis and Handscomb.

The golden number for Shield batsmen is 40

Umm, Don, did you read the article? Particularly this line – “When he faced the media two days ago and was asked to respond to Steyn’s comments he played a very straight bat, refusing to return fire.”

David Warner and his massive bat can set the tone for Australia

I couldn’t find a more recent article on the AFL Women’s competition, so apologies if there is one!

But today is a huge day for the competition with the inaugural draft taking place this afternoon.

Over 1,000 players have nominated for the draft, with each player having to nominate the state that they are willing ot be drafted to.

Due to the state nomination stuff, the first 2 picks in the drfta are not really “live” picks, because GWS have pick 1 and Brisbane have pick 2. Carlton will have the first choice of the Victorian players with Pick 3.

Most teams have already got their 2 ‘marquee’ signings and their ‘priority’ signings (one for Victorian clubs and Fremantle, two for Adelaide and Brisbane and four for GWS) as well as two rookies from another sporting background.

Each club list will be 27 players (25 plus two rookies)

The draft will be done in a snake format, with the order for the first round being GWS. Brisbane, Carlton, Fremantle, Bulldogs, Collingwood, Adelaide, Melbourne.

After the drfat, there will be a free agency period open til October 31 where clubs can fill the last three places on their list with players who have nominated for the draft, but were not selected. This includes players considering options in other states to their nominated state.

AFL women's league to have eight teams

As a Hawthorn fan, Franklin is still my favourite player in the competition. My hope for this Saturday is that he kicks 10 and has 2 medals around his neck at the end of the day!

Beast mode: Franklin, again, is the key to the grand final

Ben Hunt in the 2015 Grand Final. Not the dropped high ball, but the bigger WTF moment for me was the penalty he gave away with about 3 minutes to go. Broncos were 4 points up. Scrum would’ve been packed 10m from the Cownboys own line. The penalty gave up possession and field position, leading to the equalising try.

Pray that your team makes the right on-field choices this week

I’ll have a crack at mine, using just the players in the 40. As an aside, I did a mid season one which included Merrett, Zorko and Frawley as the only ones that didn’t get put into the nebulous squad of 40.

B: Tarrant – Rance – Rampe
HB: Shaw – Talia – Docherty
C: Scully – Mitchell – Gaff
HF: Martin – Franklin – Gunston
F: Betts – Lynch – Rioli
Foll: Gawn – Dangerfield – Selwood
Int: Sloane – Pittard – Hannebery – Simpson

Help us pick The Roar's DIY 2016 AFL All-Australian team!

Hi Megan

With the continuing good form of the Australian sides and the continuing poor form of the New Zealand sides, what are your thoughts on the whispers re changing the set up of the TTNL to either reduce the no of NZ teams or make it an Australian only competition?

I think the calls for it to be only Aust teams is a little short sighted in the greater scheme of international netball. Playing against the best players week in week out can only improve individual players, and denying some of the NZ players the opportunity to do that would be detrimental to the international game.

Although, I don’t imagine Netball Australia are too concerned about the plight of the Silver Ferns.

TTNL Round 4: UnTrans Tasman, ghosts and Oscar buzz

I wonder if a way to combat the lack of preparation is by leveraging off the desire (and monetary benefits) to play ODI’s.

Prior to a Test series, stage a 5 match ODI series for which the TV rights can be sold. And in that ODI series, none of the Test players play. They play a couple of tour matches to try to acclimatise to local conditions prior to the Test series.

Australia deserved a spanking for disrespecting Pakistan
