As another person advocated a little while ago (months?), why do we have to name a captain so early?
Why not wait until the team for the game is announced, and then pick the most suitable player? That way, the coach can select their preferred players for the game, without having to select the captain, who may be lacking in some areas.
Also, the captain should be selected not on their playing abilities (that’s how they get into the team in the first place), but on their captaining abilities. Of the names mentioned above, only one person’s abilities in that area is mentioned.

The headline says “Clarke promises to stamp out RA factions”. Maybe he should try and stamp out The Roar factions first. The comments below this article clearly show that Clarke is dreaming the impossible dream.
His words may be in the right place – as factionalism is a fundamental problem for Australian rugby – but it sounds as hollow as the new PM on election night, after a vicious and malicious campaign, saying “we must unite the country and go forward together”. Just not going to happen.

I think you will find that NZ “home” are refereed by NZ refs, Aus “home” by Aus refs. I also believe that a couple of Aus refs are officiating at 6N games this weekend. (I use “home” as some of the Super Round games were notionally home games for the NZ teams even though they were played in Melbourne – with NZ refs.)
As all this round’s NZ/Aus SRP games are in NZ, that my explain why only NZ refs there?
