Leach has been a solid player for England for quite a while and was a huge loss this series. He can bowl long spells tying up an end and has the ability to occasionally do the business in the 4th innings. There really is no one else out there for England and I wouldn’t be surprised if Leach plays for years to come as the main spinner for England.

Test-mortem: Bazball ultimately a little too reckless against Australian crawl - Where Ashes was won, lost and drawn

Two conclusions for me: (1) the ‘spirit of the game’ custodians Englilsh are far from, with spirit of the game only applying when it suits them, and (2) Aussie fans and journalists are turning the whinging Poms stereotype on its head with non stop whinging about pitches, weather, umpires (hilariously including umpire’s calls decisions going against them), cricket balls etc etc. The biggest amount of whining and crying I have ever seen for a team that has retained a trophy in my lifetime.

Flem's Verdict: Stokes’ spirit of cricket goes out the window over catch while ICC needs to sort out ludicrous ball-swap farce

Bazball won’t fall in a heap as long as the quality of the bowling is still there, as England batting stocks are filled with aggressive fast run scorers and Brook is the guy that I think here to stay for a long time. But bowling will be a big question mark as Woakes, Wood and Leach are over 30. If the bowlers can’t maintain the pressure on the batsmen with the type of fields set with Bazball, this type of cricket won’t work.

Nothing really works for away teams in India on these ultra spinning pitches

Yep, that innings in the 2nd test batting with Stokes was pure cowardice

McGrath applauds 'true champion' as Stuart Broad announces shock retirement

I think your memory is a bit short. Are you forgetting the abuse that Broad had in Australia for the audacity of not walking? Or the frequently repeated sentence of “We play tough but fair and never cross the line” which was used often prior to Sandpapergate. Both countries show exactly the same behaviour at different times.

Bairstow 99, Wood's triple strike crush Aussies as series hangs on incoming Manchester downpour

Australians and Poms behave exactly in the same way, both bad winners and bad losers. Australians a bit more arrogant and boorish thought, whilst Poms are extremely quick to bash their own

Bairstow 99, Wood's triple strike crush Aussies as series hangs on incoming Manchester downpour

Like Napoleon said, “don’t give me a good general, just give me a lucky one”

I agree, but then again there is no common methodology to determine who the all time greats are. For example are 250 wickets @ 21 better than 600 @ 27? What if the last 250 of th at 600 were taken at 21? There are so many things to consider and no right and wrong.

600 reasons to smile: Broad joins exclusive club as Aussies throw away start after start on frustrating opening day

Warner averages under 25 in England and he hasn’t been dropped! Overall Broad record is excellent, let’s give credit where it’s due.

Ali bowled poorly yesterday, but he is a much more accomplished bowler than Head

Yep, he has been doctoring the weather two in the first three tests. And bribing umpires on these close umpires calls decision. No limit to these Poms cheating

It’s very strange to blame a professional sportsman for not dropping himself. Not a big fan of Warner, but he would have never become a great player if he wasn’t single minded and selfish. It’s up to the selectors to drop him, and not up to him.

Selfishness, ignorance or pigheadedness? Warner putting own interest ahead of the team as farewell run of outs drags on

Good article. I understand the Moeen at 3 and agree that he will be given the license just to bazball it, as his defensive technique clearly isn’t good enough to play at the top of the order, but he is a good stroke maker. You have to have him in the side for balance that he provides bowling, as he is still probably England’s second best spinner after Leach. And this England team does have a pretty long batting order with Woakes out there and Wood a very capable hitter of the ball. Still very risky having his out there and be two down for not very much (although England would be used to that by now).

As for Anderson being picked – although you can never count out a champion, it’s a huge risk considering how ineffective he was in the first two tests. Maybe they are counting on his control, as Tongue is a wicket taker, but typically quite expensive, much like Wood.

So lots for Australia to try to exploit there.

Flem's Verdict: How Aussies can finish Ashes mission by exploiting England's two main areas of vulnerability

They should be oblivious to public opinion when deciding their tactics on the field, to do otherwise would be very dumb.

Selections aside, Australia can regain Ashes with tactical tweaks to negate England bats and combat Wood’s fire

Lyon is one of the best in the world. With respect to England, Leach is by far the best England have got, even if we is quite a way off Lyon. Leach is a big loss, England went with Ali due to a total lack of alternative options

Over to you, Uzzy! Broad burst topples Labuschagne and Smith to leave Aussie run chase perilously poised

This pitch is flatter than the one England chased 378 on. But the weather will play in England’s hands today, at least for a couple of hours where the ball s hould move around a lot.

Over to you, Uzzy! Broad burst topples Labuschagne and Smith to leave Aussie run chase perilously poised

Don’t see Boland being able to survive long if the ball is swinging around. But Head is in great form and he scores quick. To me that is going to be the key wicket tomorrow

Over to you, Uzzy! Broad burst topples Labuschagne and Smith to leave Aussie run chase perilously poised

You are taking it a bit too seriously, I just find this faux outrage by Aussies (fans and some journalists, not the players) about their player getting a naughty send off quite funny considering the team’s history.

It all makes for a great cricket spectacle, this series has been everything I hoped for so far.

'If you can't handle that': Defiant Pommie paceman defends disgraceful 'f---ing prick' send-off

Massive history revisioning going on from holier than thou Aussies.

Anyway, now onto the most important thing – the cricket!

Up until sandpapergate Australian media and fans in their vast majority were fully behind this “We play our cricket tough, but fair and we don’t cross the line” mantra. Let’s not revise history.

In any case, let Robinson have it when he is out there batting. Australian team certainly doesn’t seem to have a problem with the sand off. This is what test cricket is all about.

I don’t remember Australian media being hard on Clarke for a ‘Get ready for a broken f#cking arm’ incident. So let’s not make things up. This whole thing is a bear up over nothing and Aussie fans doing their favourite thing- whining. Fair play to the Australian team though – no public reaction. I am guessing they are waiting to serve Robinson some chin music, which I look forward to seeing!

Anderson has a fantastic record abroad over the past few years. Robinson averages 25 outside England

His test record is 69 wickets at 21. Good record against everyone he played (all the top nations) both home and away. Criticize his behaviour, but mediocre paceman he is not. He is an excellent bowler.
And there are numerous examples of Aussies doing this over the years. It’s all part of the competitive nature of test cricket and nothing wrong with it in my opinion. Alex Carey certainly had no issues with it

'If you can't handle that': Defiant Pommie paceman defends disgraceful 'f---ing prick' send-off

Nothing like a bit of chin music aimed at mouthy fast bowlers. One of the pleasures of test cricket. I am pretty confident though that unless injured, Robinson will play all the tests in this series and certainly he will get tested when batting.
