RWC News: Eddie's surprise new Wallabies coach revealed, fresh scare for ABs, Richie fumes at 'slap in the face'

Bula for Rookie of the Year.

Honourable mention, South Sydney’s Tyrone Munro although he only played 2 games, scoring against the Warriors on his debut, Munro went from Under-19 SG Ball side to the Jersey Flegg competition, NSW Cup competition and NRL in just over 12 months. Speed to burn, he would be close to one of the fastest players in the NRL.

NRL Rookie of the Year: The Brick, the flying mullet and Tigers' only bright spot

Jones coached Australia between 2001 and 2005, taking the team to the 2003 Rugby World Cup final. He was an advisor with South Africa when the Springboks won the 2007 Rugby World Cup, and from 2012 to 2015 he coached Japan, leading them in the 2015 Rugby World Cup and an upset win over South Africa. In 2015, Jones was appointed head coach of England and led them to win the 2016 and 2017 Six Nations Championships, becoming only the second national team to be unbeaten in a calendar year. He led England to the 2019 Rugby World Cup final where they were beaten by South Africa.

Not bad eh?

RWC News: Eddie's surprise new Wallabies coach revealed, fresh scare for ABs, Richie fumes at 'slap in the face'

Agree, and good positive article Christy. EJ is one of the best and most accomplished rugby coaches in the world. He inherited a train wreck and is now trying to stop its momentum, and turn it around. Not easy, but I have faith that if anyone can do it it is Eddie Jones.

Eddie was right about one thing in epic spray - the Wallabies must stop being reactive and accepting of mediocrity

Ryles is an upgrade from Brad Davis, no doubt. For Ryles to be considered as a successor to Craig Bellamy, who in my view has been the best Rugby League coach globally in the last 10 -15 years, and the Melbourne Storm, who are probably one of the most highly successful, best run and professional sports franchises in Australia. Plus Ryles has had recent experience in Rugby for England under EJ. An Eddie masterstroke.

Brad who?

Exclusive: 'We'll improve': Eddie's parting shot at Wallabies assistant after sensationally quitting RWC campaign

Haven’t made finals footy since 2011, two wooden spoons, one second last (2015), and a whole lot of 12-15th dismal finishes.

Tigers constantly chasing own tail - Fast-tracking Benji era makes sense but chaotic club still needs to get house in order

Congratulations to both The Lionesses and the Matildas for an entertaining and hard fought semi final. The Matildas have captured the hearts and attention of a nation, nothing but admiration and applause for them. Kerr’s goal was a cracker and Fowler is such a special talent at 20 years old. They were unfortunate tonight, maybe a little flat from their 2.5 hour marathon 3 days ago against Denmark. England tonight were far more composed and controlled the game better, it was expected they would rise to the occasion being reigning Euro Champs and won something like 36 out of 37 games.

Sam missile strikes with World Cup worldie but Matildas bow out as Lionesses roar into Final

Caracratcus, I agree 1 win + bye should just get the Bunnies in the 8. I suspect they will lose on Sunday against an in-form Knights team in front of a full capacity stadium with partisan novocastrations. Souths will then have the bye to regroup and get ready for a finals-like, do-or-die battle against the Chooks. This will be their first game at home in months and with backs against the wall, they’ll be up for it! It will (IMO) be the catalyst they need, Souths will beat the Chooks and this will lift them and give them impetus into the finals. It will be this last game of the season that gets them hardened for finals footy. Should they find their fire and form, they will then go deep into the finals.

NRL Run Home: Raiders, Rabbitohs looking shaky with three rounds left as 11 teams scramble for finals equation

I’ve said this in an earlier post, the Tigers had showed some glimpses of good footy at times this year and one felt they were slowly getting into a good rhythm, the injuries to Brooks and Api no doubted dented some of that potential flair. However I put the blame solely on the Tigers board, namely Chairman Pangelitis and CEO Pascoe, they openly declared a massive clean out of the roster and going on a spending spree! This would certainly not instil any confidence in the existing crop of players. Furthermore those clowns went off and hired a Manly guy, Fulton as their recruitment manager, and wait for it, did it without Tim Sheens or Benji Marshall’s knowledge. Incompetence and divisive at best. Especially since some believe Fulton (and his sister) were at Manly (because of their father, Manly royalty), stinks of nepotism and appears wasn’t liked too much at the Club, so once the late great Bobby passed, it was time for the club to clean out, and both offspring of the Great Late Bobby were pushed.

Now the incompetent board use Sheens and soon to be, Marshall as scapegoats. The problem is the board, not the coaches or players.

Benji taking reins early as Tigers make cut-throat call on Sheens: 'Suggestions about us knifing Tim are demeaning'

2023 Great Mysteries of the NRL

1) How Freddy (and sidekick Brandy) remain as Blues coach;
2 How Tigers Chairman Lee Hag and CEO Pascoe remain at the Tigers,

Until these two mysteries are solved, the Blues and the Tigers will continue losing.

Benji taking reins early as Tigers make cut-throat call on Sheens: 'Suggestions about us knifing Tim are demeaning'

The top 4 (Pen, Bris, Mel and NZ) are all looking strong and worthy of the top 4 . The bottom 8 (most likely Rabbitohs, Raiders, Knights and +- Cows or Sharks) will slog it out, and based on the inconsistency of these team’s performances over the season it’s anyone’s guess in what order they will end up.

NRL Run Home: Raiders, Rabbitohs looking shaky with three rounds left as 11 teams scramble for finals equation

Bunnies will spoil the the Knights party, just like they did the Warriors at home in NZ a few weeks back when t(he Warriors) were on a winning streak. Go Rabbitohs!

Round 25 Team Lists Late Mail: Wighton out, Papi in line for return, Reynolds suffers setback, Hastings doubt

Brett, thanks for pointing the penalty shoot out for rugby, I wasn’t aware of that. I am not sure the Wallabies have too many good kickers in their team, so I am hoping they never have to get to that situation (unlike the Matildas).

World Cups, unshakeable belief, the Wallabies, and those Waltzing Matildas

Doesn’t Billy Smith’s raised stiff arm directly to the head of Nikorima get a suspension? Surely that is the grubby JWH-type stuff that the NRL should crack down on. Leading with the elbow to the head (just ask Api). No excuses.

Round 25 Team Lists Late Mail: Wighton out, Papi in line for return, Reynolds suffers setback, Hastings doubt

…yet Souths have beaten the top four teams this year Panthers, Broncos, Warriors and Storm. I am not sure the Sharks or Knights have come even close to this.

NRL Power Rankings: We need to talk about South Sydney (and Parramatta)

Whether Souths win or lose against a very good Knights team, it will not matter so much as they are not destined for top 4. It will be ugly either way. Souths will then enjoy their bye in round 26 and collect a much needed +2 points. This will ensure Souths a final 8 placing with a win v the chooks. Playing a do -or-die game against the chooks is where Souths will lift, they need no more motivation when playing the chooks and I believe it will be this game where Souths show their mettle, and it will be this high that will kickstart their finals campaign. Winning 4-5 in a row will be their ambit.

NRL Power Rankings: We need to talk about South Sydney (and Parramatta)

Agree, and we’re one of the most confident 0-4 sides ever to go to a world cup. Let’s hope the ball lands on red 32 Megeng.

The Wrap: Is Eddie Jones playing the role of Keyser Soze or Frank Drebin?

I’ll take Jones over Rennie as a coach and mentor any day of the week. For all the EJ bashing, what has Rennie done? Will he ever be remembered as a great coach? Certainly not on his time as the coach of the Wallabies. I think EJ is a great coach and shall be remembered as one, he has the pedigree and smarts to know what is needed. He’s the best there is for the Wallabies. Give him some respect. Eddie has obviously seen the wreck that the Wallabies have been over the last few years and something drastic needed to change. The way the Wallabies have been tracking, they would have been out of the RWC in the early rounds, there was no chance of them wining with Rennie’s team, Hoops or Quade. EJ tried a few positions, and let’s face it at 0-4 to have some chance of winning the RWC, EJ has to go left field, he has to think of something brilliant that will be risky (just read the Roarer’s comments) but may pay off,. Fortunately we have a kinder draw (assumption) in the early rounds so this will test EJ’s team. I am ok with Quade and Hoops out for all the reasons we know, and as the Matildas have shown you don’t have to be a favourite to win in a world cup. Mackenzie Arnold, was the Matilda’s third choice keeper, now she is a national hero and one of the games’ best. EJ was also the coach of unfancied Japan who famously beat the heavy favourites South Africa in a world cup not so long ago. Go Eddie and Go Wallabies.

The Wrap: Is Eddie Jones playing the role of Keyser Soze or Frank Drebin?

Great team effort Matildas. a pleasure to watch, well done to all the players for keeping their nerves during that mammoth pen shootout, glad Sam Kerr isn’t the only headline. Truly playing a good brand of footy. Congrats! ⚽

The Great Vine: Cortnee fires Matildas through to first ever semi-final after epic shootout win over France

Souths didn’t have to be at their best tonight, and they were far far from it, it was the 2 points that mattered. Next week will be the same v Knights, they’ll win unconvincingly. They’ve probably resigned themselves to the fact they wont make the top 4, so the bottom 8 will have to do. It will be in their last game v Chooks, that they lift, they’ll up the ante, and hopefully that will kick start their finals run and play the type of footy that everyone is expecting them to deliver..

ANALYSIS: Souths bludge their way to Dragons win - but on this showing, put the line through them

Quade – out, I am ok with that, at 35 years old playing in a big tournament you need fresh legs (5-6 games in a short time period), not someone like Quade (present tenses) who really hasn’t played that much and coming back he did not look like he’d win us a world cup. Dropped ball at crucial point doesnt impress coaches. Brutal yes, but I am ok with EJ’s selections. Go Wallabies.

WILL GENIA: Why Eddie had to choose between Nic and Quade, moment I felt Hoops was done, hardest done by duo

Christy I like that about Eddie ” He’s a contrarian. He trusts few. Nor does he listen to outside noise. ” Eddie knows, and maybe we all kind of expected that we’d be impressed if the Wallabies 0-4 team made it to passed the quarterfinals. Stale. Losses to 0-4 means something had to give, and lets face it Quade and Co didnt really impress. He had to do something “left field”, and if it pays off he’ll be lauded as a genius (rightly so), if not, what has he lost ? An expected (dismal) quarterfinals berth with Quade and Hoops having their last game?

Eddie has done what was needed four years ago and ripped the bandaid off. Now he's breathed life into Aussie rugby

Melbourne and Panthers want to win a comp, no showboating in Vegas as the Bunnies, Chooks, Broncos and Eagles will.
