I was forced to watch the sydney derby on delay. After I finished the game i flicked the telly on to City v Tottenham, in spite of the ‘world-class’ players the Sydney derby was a far better spectacle, with a far better atmosphere, and a far better pitch. The crowds the last two rounds have been absolutely incredible – i’m aware this will fall but perhaps we have picked up a few eurosnobs already!! Melbourne City look to open the second level of aami park today which is bloody exciting too!!!

Can the world game become Australia's Game?

Watch the game again squizz.

Mentality, Mile and the missing midfield machinations

Not sure how much you know about him Fuss but what do you think about young Jordan Brown??

Socceroos’ desert adventure makes for more head scratching

What a strange opinion. Whilst the plans for the proposed Petone Stadium have been scrapped, I hear they are still actively looking for a new area, with this in mind the club is in rather decent financial stead despite it costing them money to play home games. A team for Jakarta would logistically be difficult bearing in mind the political grievances between Indonesia (who already have a functioning professional league) and Australia. Travel logistics should not be ignored as an issue.

A-League needs Villa fever each and every week

You certainly have a strange taste for football. Whilst I’ll admit the F3 derby was enjoyable, Victory’s new star-studded team displayed some absolutely brilliant football and put one of the best on-paper squads I can remember (this is from a City/Heart fan i don’t know what to call myself anymore!!!)

A-League needs Villa fever each and every week

The atmosphere is dull because of the stadium, not the fans. I’ve actually visited Wellington around the bay area, and I saw multiple kids with NIX shirts on. Not sure how their plans for a new stadium are going but their attendances are quite steady. There actually seems to be quite a vibe about the NIX around the city, I remember an article about Riera being on the front page of a newspaper whilst I was there. From what I saw I would say there is a nice vibe around the club.

I’m not sure if South Melbourne put in another bid for an A-League license this year but I imagine they would have. To me the FFA won’t be interested in another Melbourne based club with the difficulties Heart faced, and whilst this is a bit of a shame fans still chant “Hellas!” at the start of every game. I love going to Lakeside but it does get bloody windy, I suppose this isn’t as much of an issue in the summer HAL season. Don’t get me wrong South gets great support for an NPL side, but a lot of people I talk to at games are also Victory fans, with a couple of Heart/City fans in there too which could be problematic.

The right way to expand the A-League

Such a typical response from a Sydney supporter. How about you use reason in your criticism, or do you concede that clearly the COLA is unreasonable.

We might be sick of Eddie talking COLA, but that doesn't make him wrong

In which case I apologise. It simply seemed convenient that you were there for the only game that Union were receiving publicity for.

Fan ownership: Pipe dream or one for the pool room?

Firstly Janek, I doubt you were actually there – or did you just happen to stumble across an Union game where they were protesting ‘modern football’?

What we need to understand is that the fans literally funded and renovated the stadium themselves to meet 2. Bundesliga requirements, as the club didn’t have the money. As an actual member of Union I am happy to see the club mentioned on the roar but you have to understand that Union is an outlier, the level of fan involvement is unprecedented in the 2. Bundesliga aside from perhaps St. Pauli and now relegated Dresden (correct me if there are more).

Generally the fans get voting rights on any contentious points that come up in the on and off season. For example, the fans were at the base the clubs decision to reject the DFB’s “safe stadium experience” which essentially proposed the banning of terraces and things of that sort. The fans rejected it, as such, so did the club. Essentially fan involvement revolves around that sort of thing – which, I think is phenomenal.

I personally think that whilst Janek’s actual presence at the game is convenient he raises a good point. Fan ownership could well be the future for some clubs. It would be wonderful to see clubs like the Mariners and Newcastle have majority fan ownership and with clubs that have ‘larger’ support it could very well eventuate.

Fan ownership: Pipe dream or one for the pool room?

Great article man.
I think if A2 existed it would have to be during winter so as not to compete with the A-League, although it would be competing with the ‘larger’ codes it would be a step up from the NPL which would hopefully draw in larger crowds and more tv interest.

Which way forward for the A-League: promotion and relegation or expansion?

that’s the thing though Fuss, it is news because the media has played up Football as having hooligan culture – which is why any boisterous behaviour at a football game becomes front page worthy. The media doesn’t like to talk ramp up stories about violence or disreputable behaviour at the footy (AFL), thus, people don’t think it’s a huge problem.

ITS BLOODY IRRITATING. I have been a member of an AFL club (shall remain unnamed) all my life and I can honestly say I would feel safer at Heart games then I would do on the way in and out of the g.

The FFA Cup brought out the best and worst of football

If that was an AFL game it would not be front page news

As a ‘city fan’ Victory is still undeniably a bigger club. We haven’t beaten another A-League club all preseason.

Love, a slice of cheese and Haliti’s bare chest: True football returns

Too right, the South Hobart v tugg call was bloody brilliant those blokes need a permanent gig.

Still a bit early to decide mate but i agree with the sentiment. If I had to bet on it now – roughly a month out from the A-League commencing – Sydney FC would probably be my tip for the premiers plate (championship is another story). I think Victory and Brisbane may be their closest competition, shaping up to be one of the closer contests this year. I hope City make top four but preseason has been terrible, Adelaide are in with a great shot and will be playing attractive footy this year. It’s difficult to ever discount the Wanderers. Perth and the Nix are looking to have improved seasons – and probably will do. I’m unsure about Newcastle and the CC.

Sydney FC set to paint the A-League sky blue

Sydney FC looks bloody good this year. My tip for the win.

Will Adelaide United will win the A-League?

@Tom Davidson has been very poor so far this season mate if that continues he doesn’t deserve a spot.

Jedi’s force gets more powerful with Luke in the Socceroos

@Rob he’s made some cracking saves already this season mate – obviously paraphrasing but i’m pretty sure Klopp is looking to play him more as he phases out Wiedenfeller

Finally, another person who doesn’t rate Davidson – the games he’s played for the baggies have been below par.

Kudos to the Algerians as well i was very surprised by their quality.
Hmm Ill accept England and Italy – I reckon Deschamps’ side played rather well though.

The growing pains of Postecoglou

@Jack You realise many tipped Chile as the competitions’ dark horses leading into the World Cup?? The oranje speak for themselves too… Not sure if you are new to Football?

Disagree Joel – Not sure if you are a cats fan but as a neutral it was rather clear.

Why am i not surprised by Carlton and West Coast occupying the 1st and 2nd positions?

How much did the umpires truly affect season 2014?
