Do these militant nobodies sack another chair when we lose the Lions series? And then again for a poor ‘27 RWC showing? When does the cyclical ineptitude cease, if ever? Directors aren’t required to love each other – only to get on with a job that’s far too important to allow personal feelings to get in the way.

'What a shame': McLennan GONE as Rugby Australia name World Cup-winner chairman to bookend wild year

How do the wallabies have a credible chance of winning silverware in the next decade without continuing McLennan’s initiatives? Is it really the case that we’d prefer to be losers with impeccable values? That sounds like at best a fool’s errand and at worst the English cricket team.

'No longer have any trust or faith': Rugby Australia chairman told to resign by SIX states, EGM looms with 'gloves off'

Thanks Geoff, always a heady tonic for Mondayitis. My one ask of the three Australian teams in finals action this weekend is to please consider playing territory from the middle of the park for at least the opening stanza of the match. For example, I liked Joey Walton’s kicking game from second receiver, especially against Rebels and/or Drua (can’t recall which apologies). To me that feels like the more appropriate first half rugby against these brilliant NZ teams.

The Wrap: Drua delight shows why Super Rugby finals structure is right for now

Apologies if this has been covered in comments already, but I was surprised at the Tahs strategy to throw it around from the middle of the park. I was expecting more of the approach they deployed against Drua (and perhaps others) where they kicked smartly into the opposition 22 (at least for sections of the game) from the middle. Young Mr. Walton seems particularly adept at that.

'Embarrassed': Hooper's farewell falls flat as horrific Tahs smashed in momentum-killer ahead of quarter

Going to watch the 2009 win by the Tahs against the Blues at Eden Park to give me a good dose of false hope. Boy I appreciate the Tahs squads of yesteryear that much more now.

'A massive mountain': Tahs' night goes from bad to worse as Test stars set to miss QF at Eden Park

I thought the Walton yellow card was odd. Looked a text book pilfer to me (admittedly on TV coverage and not live) and not really repeat infringements before that were there?

Waratahs licking their wounds as Jorgensen injury adds to Crusaders reality check

Agreed. Finally starting to see green shoots of a more sustainable retention of talent strategy. Although I feel like it’s a bit two speed in terms of backs and backrowers versus tight 5

'World class': White's bombshell move to Super Rugby rival confirmed

Completely agree. All very calculated and it’s entertaining seeing the bait being taken. Hopefully in the next couple of years the players can earn more of the spotlight.

McLennan treading fine line between ringmaster and clown with snarky rants when rugby needs more from chairman

Hi Brett. Thanks for that piece. I have two questions

1. What style of hooker do you think the wallabies coaching staff want?

2. Is there a cohesion risk in introducing a new hooker to the Rennie setup with such scarce test match time before the opening RWC fixture?

Everyone’s an option: Why next season will be a great time to be an Australian hooker

Really appreciate that excellent piece Nick. I feel like no walk of life is immune from a need for balance. We’ve seen an improvement in mindset in Taniela Tupou this year as well, who was admirably open about the positives in his break from the game. I believe there’s something in that from a high performance perspective.

ANALYSIS: How Michael Hooper came back from his break a more adaptable and more effective player

Two things:

(1) I think all the wallabies fly halves are talented. The young ones will surely grow into this top level of test rugby. The basics are mostly solid. I like how Donaldson plays on top of the defence. I hope Mr. Lolesio can unlearn his “stuck in the mud” feet planting technique upon ball distribution. Keep running forwards please sir! I’m sure he’s in touch with QC around those things.

(2) nice to see some of the generation next / Australia A style of play at the back end, with nice support play and short passing. In some ways these young chaps seem to execute those skills more ably than the preferred starters, perhaps because they’ve played a lot together already.

The Wrap: Resurgent Wallabies lay down a marker for the World Cup’s 'group of life'

Interesting team sheet. Clearly playing off 9 primarily and a little off 10, most likely at set piece. No recognised second playmaker at 12 or 15. Unless NW plays 80, no recognised long range goal kicker on the field at the end. History says it’ll be another chase job for the Australians. I wonder if setting the physical tone up front with TT and WS is worth trying? I know the “finishers” are really important, but perhaps the wallabies are over-indexing on that.

WALLABIES TEAM: Rennie makes ten changes, including a surprise at 15, leaves kryptonite on the bench

It’s quite a strange feeling seeing such a contrast in the performance of and sentiment for the Wallabies versus Sevens at the moment.

I'm not giving up on the Wallabies, but I have no idea where they're going now

I believe there’s a reasonable argument that, in the context of Australian rugby’s recent performance and what it needs, the World Cup casts a disproportionately large shadow over the here and now of strategy and selection approaches.

Stop thinking about France 2023 Australian rugby - think about next week

Agreed. Unfortunately we’re seeing the challenge of a missing generation of playmakers that would be in their mid to late 20s now. I’m unsure why there’s such a yawning gap, but it seems to be there.

ANALYSIS: The Wallabies have backed the wrong horse as their No.10 project

I think it’s difficult to argue with the notion that discipline is a systemic issue with this group in 2022. Some of it seems to be judgment related and some more about technique / accuracy under pressure. It must be difficult for a coaching group to address such varied causes.

No s--t, Mortlock! Wallabies great blasts 'train wreck,' says team has 'no chance' of RWC win, discipline issues 'systemic'
