Bombers tragic and feral Storm supporter. Between these two champion clubs, I have seen them win 10 flags, even if I was a bit young for two of them. Pretty good haul for any sports lover! Favourite quote: "No-one ever says it's only a game when you win" - Dermott Brereton

Not just in game though – include the presser and off the field. Can’t have players shutting their mouths on the field and then encouraging referee-bashing afterwards. It’s time to have genuine standards regarding what behaviour is acceptable around our game

NRL Round 9 Talking Points: Abuse of Kasey Badger is way out of line - on and off the field

The sad bit is that it shouldn’t be refreshing. Having said that, I don’t see many of the very best coaches indulging in referee-bashing. For example, I can’t remember the last time Bellamy or Bennett blamed refereeing for a loss – they always seem to focus on what the team could control.

NRL Round 9 Talking Points: Abuse of Kasey Badger is way out of line - on and off the field

NRL needs to take the AFL position and start with a blanket ban on players/coaches criticising refereeing decisions in any fashion. Complaining about refereeing in an after-match presser is a cop out – literally abdicating responsibility for your own performance and blaming an external factor. It is also incredibly unfair to referees who get no right of reply, and sets a terrible example for everyone else in the sport. Get serious and back your people.

Love your rhetorical question at the end 😂

If Maguire is picking his Blues team on 'character', here's who is in - and who he should avoid at all costs

Full back is the tricky one, 3 way race for a spot between Edwards, Paps and Turbo. All have “character” (maturity I think is what he means) and are in great form atm. And surely the fox is a lock in, great player who can always put team first. Seeing him opposite Coates would be one of the best match ups of this year’s SOO

they had 44 consecutive points put on them

The word is they should have sent him for surgery in the first place instead of hoping he could do without it

Besieged Bunnies show some fight before Panthers flex their muscles - but Tago facing ban for dangerous hip drop

Bunnies only “showed fight” when it was 13 vs 12. For large parts of the rest of the game, they were woeful – they had 40 points put on them in a row! Not sure why the positivity about their “effort” – if you can call it that. Letting Edwards and May run wild from a 20m restart was one of the laziest pieces of footy I have ever seen. As a team, they look either lazy or not fit enough, or possibly both

Against the worst Qld team ever 😂

Blues Origin predicted team: Huge blow for NSW and Bunnies with Murray out long term

I suppose if he loses the case (which is quite possible), that might be seismic also?

The Jackson Topine case is just like the Shane Heal legal saga that threatens huge modern-day coaching ramifications

Fair enough. I reckon based on the opposition they’ve played and beaten, they are the best but they do have some players who are banged up – hopefully nothing too serious. They’ll look better if they can get full games out of NAS in the near future. Cows looked better though, I thought they were going to have 40 put on them at half time. Taumololo looked the least banged up I have seen him in a year or two

Don’t be salty just because they are better than the Cows – not every team can be the best 😂

Not sure about your premise here. The main issue is that, as a Rugby League player, wrestling is likely to be a fairly standard part of regular training, rather than some cruel or unusual form of punishment. If he worked in an office, he might have been reading spreadsheets and entering data. Without details, it is impossible for anyone to be specific in whether the session was accepable or not – how long did the session go? Was this a unique punishment, or a standard “forfeit” that was a known consequence for missing training sessions without a valid reason? Was there any sign of physical or mental injury during the session? Did he indicate distress, and if so, was he forced to continue? No-one knows yet, but I don’t see a problem on the surface with people being given a consequence in line with their regular duties for unacceptable behaviour.

Topine vs Bulldogs an important case for NRL and players - wrestling punishment shouldn't be tolerated in a 'workplace'

The ridiculous situation of clubs managing their own junior development ensures the NRL will not have an equitable competition. Clubs with larger catchments (or even catchments with better playing and training facilities) get the advantage of a larger pool of young talent that is almost certainly on a lower contract than established stars. Teams with catchments that have a higher standard of juniors will play more matches at a higher level and develop faster. When players at these clubs are ready for a larger contract, the club can release them knowing that there are more talented juniors jostling for a contract in their junior system. They effectively get “more bang for their buck”. Until the NRL gets with the 21st century and has a national draft system, the league will continue to be made up of the haves and the have-nots.

Paradox of parity: NRL craves a level playing field but fans love to hate a dynasty like Penrith’s undisputed reign

Only the huge spaces of Waverley could that happen, stadium was worth it just for that. From an Essendon supporter 😊

A real supporter would look at those numbers and stay home 😂 With that said, I am sure some fellow Roarers would join me in crowdfunding you a season ticket; hope you enjoy the game 👍

I don’t care about the dollar number. It’s not like I see them hand over the cash anyway. As long as the league runs with percentages of salary match payments and they get paid it’s not a problem. And the League knows the salaries/extras because of the salary cap so no-one needs to disclose their contract to anyone who doesn’t already know it. No lack of transparancy there for mine

The AFL's Tribunal system is an overcomplicated mess designed to create drama - it needs a radical overhaul, fast

not necessarily. Decision could have been “player x has been fined 5 percent of their base salary + 10 percent of their matchday payment”. No dollar value needs to be provided.

It’s a tricky one… I’d be hoping they have been working on this during the 4 weeks and some genuine desire to get amongst it again helps him find form. I would play him and rest Goldstein, with Wright alternating in the fwd line. Jones has to play after good efforts the last few weeks

Six Points: Greene lucky to only get a week, 2024's two best wins, and the moment that sums up woeful Roos

The worst bit about it was the AFL doubling down on some of the terrible calls after the game. BOOOOOO Nathan Buckley

Comment of the day here. Why wasn’t he complaining about Tedesco being left on the field after his trip on Paps if he wanted to complain about poor decisions?

'Both were really clear': Roosters in a rage over ref's contentious calls as Storm win on the back of two dubious tries

Nothing wrong with it. The real issues in the game were Hughes getting smashed so he couldn’t chase his own kick and Tedesco somehow not getting binned for a blatant trip.
