I am not an expert but I enjoy the Pacific islanders & kiwis play origin.
Good on them for playing international games for their nation of birth (or parents nation).
However, can Australian citizens be given any priority?
Non citizens play origin. Good on them for being good enough to be selected.
But a kid born & raised in Aust may be justified in being passed over. Malitulo is not an Australian. It’s a very tough situation & getting clarity is crucial IMO
Origin selection criteria need an overhaul
Thanks Joe Frost. I agree. A player born and raised in Queensland who has wanted to play for QLD should not miss out due to Mulitalo. I suspect his parents assisted him to fill out the forms when he was in the most junior level for the maroons but suspect the family never knew they needed to have moved to QLD an entire year before they did.
QRL should be vetting this IMO. Place and date of place should be on the form along with date moved to Australia.
Ronaldo Mulitalo is not a Maroon - and he should have known as much
After he earned selection in the USA Hawks’ maiden World Cup Nines squad, Ronaldo Mulitalo was sent an old recording by his brother.
“I had said to him about two years ago, ‘Two years from now I want to be playing for the USA’,” Mulitalo, whose mother was born in American Samoa, reflected to NRL.com.
