McStay is underrated, when he’s not kicking for goal he’s a very useful and handy player. I’ve always had time for him.

Mitch Robinson is definitely in the bottom 6 players now each week. If we find a better free agent he won’t be long for the side. Still prefer him out there to Ellis-Yolmen though.

“don’t have the runs on the board”

3 of the last 4 premierships seems a pretty decent first innings.

Until they’re out of finals or Dustin Martin is out of the lineup they’re still my favourite for the flag

Bancroft is only going to get more and more dirty the longer he’s out of the side. Getting axed after two indifferent tests during the 2019 Ashes and watching the ringleader Davy get 5 absolutely abysmal tests can’t have improved his mood or his feelings of being hard done by. I’ve no doubt that the longer this has rolled on the more and more cranky he’s gotten about being hung out to dry by the powers that be at CA. I don’t think he’s a very good judge of PR though – I doubt very much there’s many people who want to revisit the sandpapergate mess, I think most would rather watch Ben Stokes bat at Headingley on repeat than watch those excruciating events again.

If he persists in bringing this up he can join the list of embittered ex-test cricketers who got frozen out and join guys like Matthew Elliott, Phil Jaques, Nathan Hauritz and Greg Dyer in a long angst ridden retirement.

“Full responsibility”? Bancroft’s unease as the fall guy laid bare

Pretty clear from the story he was bringing an ounce back home for him and his mates.

Clearly he likes smoking weed. That’s not going to be an easy thing for him to kick. Very habit forming.

The Eagles need to give Willie Rioli another chance

Will be there for this one. Given the game is against Richmond I won’t be disappointed in the slightest if it winds up a non-competitive blowout like the game against Port two weeks ago, so long as Richmond are on the wrong end of it.

I think the afl is comfortable enough cherry picking the elite teenage talent and leaving the masses to find their own way forward. I rather think you and I would agree based on what I read in the guardian from your experience with job agencies that the federal government doesn’t do anywhere near enough heavy lifting in terms of giving underprivileged young people opportunities

AFL austerity is hurting junior pathways

I am honestly not fussed at all though about the notion of these talented kids having to pick up and move to go to where the opportunities are. It would be no different to any intellectual titan from the regions – they get a scholarship to a boarding school in Brisbane – and in sporting terms, Nudgee college has feasted for years on scooping up rugby playing students to come and get a bit of education in between taking it up for the First XV.

Is it really that much hardship to move to where the work is? Seems a pretty common thing from various government ministers to the unemployed – and these kids are looking at far better and more remunerated opportunities than the chance to pick blueberries for $3/hour.

AFL austerity is hurting junior pathways

You always knew the AFL would take the scissors to the juniors – they don’t have an EBA, and they can’t make waves by getting their players association together as they don’t have one of those either.

It’s one of those impacts where you can’t see the alternative – yes, we will probably have a generation of players for the next 5-6 years who missed out on a lot of formative development but if everyone’s equally impacted it won’t be noticeable. Just a lot more people complaining that the football of the 2020’s isn’t as good as yesteryear.

If it’s any consolation I’m not sure of any sport that is doing well coming out of covid barring E-Sports.

AFL austerity is hurting junior pathways

I’m not writing off Richmond until they’re out of the finals.

Why Tiger Time is far from over

I agree with is ‘oliness, it were Mark Twain what said it

Why Tiger Time is far from over

“The challenges are, especially when you go out and you let your hair down after a stressful week, you’re dealing with d***heads that pull out their phones at a nightclub and are just trying to film something on social media,” Dangerfield told SEN.

So don’t go to a nightclub. They’re paid enough surely to avoid them 7-8 months of the year.

“They’re looking for a reaction. You’re on a highway to nothing as a player.”

As a resident of Geelong Paddy would know all about driving down a highway to nothing. But come on, we all know the dollars these guys get – they choose to work in this space to earn a living playing football.

“We’ve got to treat our players like adults and they’ve got to be able to enjoy themselves but you do deal with members of the general public that are out there for nothing but trouble.”

Best to avoid them then. I agree with Richmond not disciplining Rioli/Bolton but to say that they’re the blameless victims in all of this as Paddy implies is a bit rich.

"D-heads": Dangerfield slams public who bait footballers

He was a very thinking player – he brought about the change in the lbw rule where a ball could be given out if a batter was struck outside the line of off stump by not playing a shot, due to an enormous innings in partnership with Denis Compton in the first test of 1957 against the West Indies where he decided to use his pads to nullify Ramadhin’s impact

Their spinner Sonny Ramadhin had taken 7/49 in the first innings – when he came out to bat at 3/133 and still 175 behind in England’s 2nd innings, May decided to pad everything away and made Ramadhin grind through the most ever balls bowled in a first class innings – 98–35–179–2 as May made his way to 285* and Compton to 154, they put on 411 for the 4th wicket and saved the test for England.

In calling him delicious
Bruce sounded a bit lascivious
Particularly when saying it of free will

Richmond Tigers vs Geelong Cats: AFL Friday night forecast

The Dees are not the team to beat. How quickly people forget their humbling at the hands of West Coast in 2018. This is a team that goes to water when the pressure is on. Even if they make it to the grand final if they’re up against Richmond I give them the same chance and prospects as Adelaide 2017 or GWS 2019.

Why Melbourne could be the team to beat in 2021

Good shout – I think if Paine hadn’t burnt our review so stupidly only a few balls earlier I’d be more dirty about the one against Stokes too

Another great article. Thorpe really was a wally wasn’t he. I remember when he was griping about being pushed out for KP in 2005 prior to the Ashes – seems a very sensible selection decision in hindsight!

I think for me the most visceral disappointment I can remember at seeing a great moment spoiled by the umpire was when Rudy gave Sanga out for 192 down in Hobart back in 2007. They almost certainly wouldn’t have gotten there, 364/8 chasing 507 at that point but Sanga deserved to be able to end that on his own terms, he was such a great batter to watch when he was going

Kallis is like the saffa version of Allan border

He’s not number one but he’s a great player who anchored an era

Lies and damn lies: Cricket’s debatable statistics

I must admit I hadn’t considered Sam Mitchell but certainly he’s probably the closest in personality to Alistair Clarkson, a smart angry little player on the field. It’s an interesting thought. If the pies put him in and he does for them what Clarko did in 2008 with his rebuilding side now that would be something to watch

I saw him at the game, was strolling round the boundary back to the rooms with the rezzies – bellowed out “WE STILL LOVE YA TOMMY” and got a broad grin and a wave in response

Ken hates playing him in the wet for some reason, I still remember a game from a year or two ago where he’d gotten 60 touches in the rezzies the week before and what Ken thought was needed in a howling rainstorm was more tall forwards. I think the guy he brought in got about 3 touches, no marks, no goals.

Is footy's forgotten free agent the key to unlocking Carlton's skipper?

That’s after he had all the right wing hack beaten out of him. He used to be a real pointy nosed POS back in the day.

Who wants to bet MacGill knew them, or owed them money. I can think of at least 50 cricketers with a bigger net worth than him. Makes no sense otherwise.

Keating would shred Scomo. AusQuestionTime on youtube has been dusting off some Keating gems of late. I reckon Hewson must have need a psychiatrist after he was done.
