The outcome we are trying to achieve is ‘Service to Australian rugby’. The criteria needs to be years / caps across the domestic tiers. International representation is merely a ‘lag’ measure.
Imagine. Born and bred in Australia, played 5+ years SR, go overseas. Reach career best performance. But be excluded from wallabies selection. Verses, come to Australia, fulfil residency, recruited strait into wallabies. It seems unfair and counter productive.
Have a criteria that is fit for purpose. Simply Wallaby caps attained has no internally consistent logic.

But my point is, the POTY framing does not leave as much scope for front rowers nomination given their comparatively lesser game time and position sharing.

Front rows ‘plural’. So all six. I’m not being entirely facetious. They’ve generally been pretty awesome this year, and have been the reliable platform around which the Bok’s dominance has been built.

NZ, Pumas and Boks to prevail because they consistently play better rugby than their opponents.
One of Fiji and Aus to prevail, because on their day either are capable of a mugging of their opponents. Fiji if their jaw dropping talent gels. Wallabies if their finishing improves. Both are big ifs.
But one of the games this weekend has to be one for the romantics. I hope it is the wallabies given their selection discontinuities this season and not the Scots, a team who will also be daring to dream.

It’s ironic that having ditched the Giteau rule the Wallabies are still having to select a team that looks more B team than A team. Will we ever see a full strength Wallabies ever again otherwise this ‘inferiority complex’ will be difficult to shed.

Absolutely, TMO should be ensuring bloopers are eliminated. Yes there will always be line ball calls, but the TMO should be helping catch blatant transgressions.

DA – the point of the DR reference is that it depends. There are many variables and assumptions at play – some known, some unknown. I heard a report that highly vaccinated Israel who are advanced in rolling out third doses and have world class medical facilities are reimposing restrictions because of rising infections and hospitalisations. Which if true, is of concern . . .

FB – no not rude, just a tad patronising. My observations of Covid so far is that it has repeatedly outwitted humanity.
Knowing what is an acceptable death rate vis a vis economic imperatives is a fraught moral debate. I’d admit that I’m probably a victim of my own information bubble and local government propaganda, but it does not seem unreasonable for me to wear a mask and avoid crowds when I can even where there are high rates of vaccination. Treating covid with caution is the least I can do til the evidence is sufficiently compelling that we can do otherwise.

Tony, that scoreline implies Wallabies not scoring a try. It is not often that happens even when the wallabies are walloped. I’d respectfully suggest you are over-rating the Scot’s defensive abilities even if they end up on the right side of the ledger.
Even Italy scored a try against them in the last 6 nations. Curiously, the English didn’t, so maybe you are on to something . . .

FB – it’s all relative. From where I sit, the UK, but more particularly England, appear to have a far more ‘laissez faire’ approach to controlling the pandemic than many others in the developed world. But without being there it’s hard to know how people culturally are responding to safe behaviours as opposed to the listed mandates. However, I was pretty surprised watching the Scotland Tonga how many were not wearing mask’s regardless of vaccination rates. Where I live with zero cases you can’t go to a public event or indoors without a mask and checkin.
And here is the contradiction- I am looking forward to watching these games with the atmosphere that full uk stadiums provide. The best public service the tourists can provide will be to silence the crowds. 😛

Yes, and although it’s up to them, they potentially clog up the hospitals which is not good for everyone else.
But I acknowledge it is a wicked problem with no easy answers.
