‘ Divine Intervention’ indeed. Touché – have a dozen upticks for inspired byline

'Divine intervention': The World Rugby rule change that could bring Israel Folau back to Test rugby

If it helps avoid ambiguity, apparently the upside down smiley emoji customarily denotes ‘sarcasm’.
Note to editor. You could add it to the menu of emoji as Roarers regularly use sarcasm and is often misinterpreted. 😱

England skipper Owen Farrell tests positive to COVID, eight days before Wallabies showdown

Disappointing. One can’t help thinking that Covid 19 will spring more selection surprises than Eddie over the next couple of weeks!

Full house at Twickers, few wearing masks, singing. 66% vaccination rate. What could possibly go wrong?

England skipper Owen Farrell tests positive to COVID, eight days before Wallabies showdown

You wouldn’t wish it on anyone. Who has he been training with all week? With a 3 day incubation period you’d think the whole team would be put in isolation.

Under Australian protocols the England team could basically kiss goodbye to the next 14 days. It’ll be interesting to hear the RFU’s position on this. BJ clearly doesn’t care much.

Farrell starts at No.10 as injury delays Eddie's master plan, while ex-Wallaby debuts for Tonga

“Australian good looks” – define please. Is he the only one with them or are there others? Are there more of his looks to be found in Mount Isa? Or are they all now lost to Miami, Florida. (Tongue firmly in cheek)

Air Jordan's insane wealth revealed as one Aussie makes rich list cut

Aus have beaten NZ recently . . . and India have made a lie of favourites tag. Win the toss and it’s anyones game – it’s T20 after all. Go on, dare to believe.

MATCH REPORT: Zampa a handful as Aussies humiliate 'third grade' Bangladesh

They’ll be pleased that it is Pakistan they will meet in the semifinals now that they are next in the box seat in their group to reach them. Pakistan can go from Gods to dogs with the frequency of a coin flip, which is all it takes to have the advantage in this tournament it seems.
I reckon the odds on Australia must currently look pretty attractive if you have a lazy pineapple in the wallet. Add it to a wallabies win over Scotland in a multibet and last Tuesday’s ‘pinning the tail on the donkey’ will be a distant memory.

MATCH REPORT: Zampa a handful as Aussies humiliate 'third grade' Bangladesh

. . . but the present doesn’t lie with Hodge and Banks. A lot of the European call ups aren’t starters they are insurance and bench at best. But the knowledge they bring will help shape the Wallabies future.

Watching reels of Cooper and Beale unlock Welsh defences are ones for the ages.

'World Cup is a goal', 'Quade motivated me': Everything Kurtley Beale said on Wallabies return

Those rankings feel more like ‘ratings’. I thought a clean sweep by SA would return them to the top.

I think those rankings might imply SA and the Wallabies will drop a game, and England beat just one of either of them (but probably the wallabies). Nz win all their games. So SA lose only to either Wales or Scotland. But there could be other permutations which are less likely.

. . . rankings are a dark art which only the darkness are any good at.

The Thursday rugby two-up: Last chance to revise Spring Tour predictions for the southern raiders

A glass half full – this is a dangerous game for the Scots because the wallabies are a team with many maturing players and a captain who has improved his decision making.

Scotland forward hails Rennie's 'brutal, brilliant' Wallabies, shares big insight into his ex-coach

Telling players to do so or not to do so are both counter productive. ‘Own goals’ in sporting parlance.

Cricket South Africa took away their players' voices and robbed gesture of power

Nice piece. Much of rugby’s romance has been lost in the professional era, so lovely to hear these stories.

Lordy Ōwhango has two All Blacks

The Japanese may not have said ‘no’ or breached reg 9. Their clubs may simply have put the players in an invidious position.

But yes, one would like to think the Japanese would have leveraged this situation to encourage RA to further progress the longer term cause of Japanese rugby as a whole. Maybe the Japanese now believe they no longer need RA.

Why Japan and the clubs are in the wrong over Quade and Samu

One door closes, another opens . . . in walks Duncan Paia’aua. If true, then useful cover for both 10/12.

There is enough quality former wallabies or nearly wallabies playing outside Australia to make a respectable second XXIII. Depth not an issue, RA tying itself in knots is though.

'We want guys who are desperate to be Wallabies': Rennie reacts as Cooper chooses club over country - Beale, Lolesio return

Of some consolation is that Jones and Pivac have player selection and availability issues of their own. Things may not be as bad as they currently feel for DR, especially if the Wallabies can get past the Scots who seem more settled than the other home nations. Despite the loss of QC and SK the wallabies should be more cohesive than their Hemisphere opponents coming off Eight international matches

'We want guys who are desperate to be Wallabies': Rennie reacts as Cooper chooses club over country - Beale, Lolesio return

Yes, and it could be the point of difference that even the ‘weakened’ back can exploit.

'We want guys who are desperate to be Wallabies': Rennie reacts as Cooper chooses club over country - Beale, Lolesio return

Touché!

'We want guys who are desperate to be Wallabies': Rennie reacts as Cooper chooses club over country - Beale, Lolesio return

DR certainly seems to have made some good/lucky calls in the face of adversity. Having to think outside the box has benefited the Wallabies. NH tour is requiring some more left field thinking. It may also advance the Wallabies cause.

The Thursday rugby two-up: What needs fixing this spring?

Quite likely that DR’s team/squad announcement will create more discussion on these threads than the game itself. Can’t wait . . .

The Thursday rugby two-up: What needs fixing this spring?

If the Wallabies’ forwards tactical play on this tour is as smart as they played when down to 14 men for most the game played in one of the matches against the French this winter they’ll present their opposition with headaches.

The Thursday rugby two-up: What needs fixing this spring?

I’m relatively new around here. Enjoying this format, but more generally impressed by the quality of the articles and the tenor of the btl discussion.

The Thursday rugby two-up: What needs fixing this spring?

Yes, the positive from this tour is the opportunity for DR to develop a plan B in the absence of a SK dependent plan A. Building depth of combinations not just depth in positions will make the wallabies stronger in the longer term. This tour gives DR a look a forwards combinations with European based players and to lesser extent the backs. The benefit of this depends on what RA decide to do with Giteau rule come RWC. But a successful the tour of mixed SR and NH players might shift their thinking.

The Thursday rugby two-up: What needs fixing this spring?

Morohan injured apparently

The Thursday rugby two-up: What needs fixing this spring?

Great post. Yes, this tour is when the wallabies forwards need to stand up. They can make or break this tour. If they make it then they’ll be confident of being the platform for RWC.

The Thursday rugby two-up: What needs fixing this spring?

Yes, the writing was on the wall during the RC just prior to RWC. From memory Boks played one pack in SA against Wallabies while they flew another pack ahead of time to NZ ready for the following match where they mixed them up. Both configurations were competitive. Masterstroke by Rassie.
