Blues lost the draft, yet only had one pick and took the best available player… okay 😛

Blues won the trade period but lost the draft

I thought Carlton as individual players performed really well, but cohesion in defence seemed to be the thing that let them down. Guys like King, Lonie and Membrey seemed to dominate throughout the night and create havoc for the Blues. I think considering Carlton had a plethora of key injuries (Curnow, Betts, Newman, McKay, Weitering, Plowman, Newnes, Casboult, McGovern, De Koning, Kemp), some really positive signs can be taken out from last night.

Brave Blues fall short of gutsy Saints

Great suff Doran. This would be my personal, fully fit, best 22 for this year. FB – Plowman, Jones, Newman. HB – Saad, Weitering, Docherty. M – Williamson, Cripps, Walsh. HF – Martin, C. Curnow, Gibbons. FF – Fisher, McKay, Betts. FOL – De Koning, Setterfield, Williams. I/C – Murphy, Petrevski-Seton, E. Curnow, McGovern. EMG – Casboult, Newnes, Marchbank, Silvagni. Our depth is finally so strong, and I would be confident with any one of the emergencies being in the 22. However with this team that I made, it revolves around midfield rotations which I think is where we lacked last year. SPS x Willo – HBF/Wing. Cripps x Gibbons – On-ball/Forward. Murphy x Gibbons – Wing/Forward. Martin x Williams – On-ball/Forward. I think we still lack some players to meet total depth across the grounds. A key position defender such as Oscar McDonald is really who we should be looking at picking with our final list spot. IF Charlie hasn’t got on the park by the end of this year, we should be looking at picking up another KPF. That’s also on top of future replacements for both Jones and Casboult. Should be interesting, especially seeing who will step up this year. Get excited baggers.

The order of merit: Carlton Blues 2021 season

Oh mate, I’m sorry. But you’re full of poop. Finishing 12th?
They finished 11th without Saad, Williams, Fogarty, and an injured Cripps! 😂

Yep! And if we can get some youngsters to move on the veterans such as Murph and Betts before the end of the season, that only makes our team better. Exciting times.

Spot on with your 22. Personally, as soon as Newman overcomes his injury he must in that back 7. Whether that means he takes the spot of a Marchbank/SPS, or even Murphy who lets SPS play in the midfield/HFF full time.

Either way, we have heaps of depth. It’s great.

In terms of the ‘3rd midfielder’, I think both E. Curnow and Setterfield are quite underrated. Up forward, guys like Fisher, McGovern and Martin can also be very good.

I think the blues finally have enough mature talent and developing youngsters, to make the next step into finals.

Nice work mate. SPS will not continue to play off half-back. He is a natural midfielder and was simply playing there to cover for the injuries of Marchbank/Newman. Speaking of Newman, no mention of him even in the emergencies? I think along with Doc and Saad they are our best small defenders.
Another person who wasn’t even mentioned in the emergencies was Setterfield, our most improved for 2020. I have no doubt that he will have a breakout season. Someone else for a big year, is Tom De Koning – not De Koenig : ) . At only 9 career games, I am calling it right here, right now, he will be the next Grundy/Nic Nat.
Something else which I would change with your team, is that the team is way too tall and slow. Curnow, McKay, De Koning, Pittonet, Casboult, Jones, Weitering, Marchbank, Cripps and Kennedy.
Overall not too bad, but I would make a few changes. IN – Setterfield, Betts, Newman. OUT – Kennedy, Newnes, Pittonet.

Is the new Carlton line-up really all that improved?

Carlton can easily combine their picks 38 + 48 for a mid 2nd rounder and pick up Walsh
