They could settle for $250

Should Rugby Australia be compensated for Mack Hansen's Ireland call-up?

Howdy, he is good but only had 14 opportunities out of 3 years since he was 20 through Brumbies set-up. Once again best position of 10 or 15, couldn’t get look in with Banks, Wright then they brought in Loleisi who then started for Wallabies who played U20’s after Mack. He’d spoken to all Aus SF clubs before making up mind to try Ireland as SF said they couldn’t ensure starting op. He did what was best for himself & seems to have best call at present, early but exciting days, let’s not victim blame as he was offered this opportunity.

Just spoke to Mack’s Dad Craig I’m Canberra, they are all exhausted & so proud! What a debut! Trust we can all share in his outstanding intro to International Rugby. No losers here in Oz. I’m sure his supporters, former players & coaches are absolutely rapt for him as his family & friends are. He loved playing for Brumbies & now loves playing for Connacht & seeing how far his career can progress. Wow, still can’t believe & MOM is just beyond wildest expectations.

Dan Mackeller obviously had other things on his mind as his departure to Wallabies attack coach was similar timing to Mack being overlooked perhaps, just bad timing but ended up ok for Mack it would appear

His Dad did look at immediate flights, problem was the Irish squad is in bubble, he would have gone all way to watch in stand & not be to give his son a hug & kiss. Sad times indeed, maybe this year for Xmas & who know WC ‘23 in Paris Sep/Oct.

Cheers Mzilikaze……..what a rookie error, can only put it down to no sleep for last couple of days…of Course Cardiff Arms in Wales…..absolute brain fart…this Aviva name just gets me every time. For the record I am beat mates with Mack’s Dad Craig, been best mates since school in 1971! Very excited for kick off tomorrow night our time, I’m on Gold Coast, Craig (Wally) as he’s known, Diana (Mack’s Mum) younger brother Jake all watching from home in Canberra. Mack’s Grandma, Bettie (90 not out) & strong as ever watching in Sydney! Whatever happens, Mack will accept & give it his best, genuinely lovely & funny young man who will enjoy & savour every moment ???? Asho

Spot on, not too much incentive for the likes of Mack that truly want to play weekly footy, can’t get a look in at preferred position of 15 or 10, show patience for 3 years, get limited opportunities on wing which has excellent games when afforded opportunities, see an ex NRL player paid circa $900k, picked in 40 man WB squad, later U20 players are picked in 40 man squad….he receives very respective offers in his mother’s homeland that looks like affording all his wants of rugby brain expansion, living & travelling to European destinations everyone dreams of, excels since arrival, has blinders in first 7 games, picked in Irish Squad who have won last 8 tests including AB’s, coach sees his potential and jumps queue over highly respected Ireland wingers to be given first Irish Cap…..and he’s picked in his least preferred position….says a heap for Mack’s raw talent & outstanding potential, is a fair rap for Irish coaching program, & is magnificent platform & showcase to perform in debut in front of 60000 Irish patriots at Cardiff Arms…..what a ride ????????

The frightening part is, wing is Mack’s least preferred position, before his wing selection for Brumbies, he has played & excelled in his preferred 10 or 15 jersey that’s where he’s played his lifetime since childhood & where he played in Wallabies U20’s World Cup….go figure, only opportunities he’s had with Brumbies Super League side was at 11 or 14. Time will tell but can see Mack playing in his preferred position at Connacht & National side down the track ????

Thanks for the article but what compensation would you be referring to. Young Mack has never received any remuneration from RA? He had been contracted by Brumbies only. He didn’t break any contracts, made a brave move & wanted to expand his Rugby opportunities & importantly wants chance to be in run on side weekly. He was asked to join Connacht, was selected into Ireland Squad & was selected by A Farrell to pick up first cap for Ireland off his own bat & was always Irish qualified by his Irish Mum. Not his fault Wallabies didn’t select him in 40 man squad mid 2021? He’s done nothing wrong other than taking giant leap to expand his Rugby talent that has been very well received & acknowledged by his new home in Ireland. Fair result for young Mack, embarrassment from RA maybe, but no talk of compensation please. Quite unfair & unjust to say the least.
