About that basketball fad, have you noticed that alot of people have become re-interested in NBA and are talking about it again?

Either it’s come out of nowhere or it’s because we can watch it on FTA TV.

Fans should be vested in ownership of clubs

Generalisations and stereotypes exist for a reason.

It’s true that most Latin America’s are technically the most gifted in the world, (Greatest of all time Pele, Maradona and soon Messi? all from South America)
it’s true that most Asian players are short and struggle aerially (key for Socceroo’s World Cup qualification)
it’s true that Western Asian players dive the most (20 stretchers and defibrillators brought out per game)
it’s true that English players are less technically gifted but more physically powerful and hard working (Wayne Rooney).

Mindless stereotypes hinder our progress

It’s best to forget about things like this, but it’s hard when we keep being reminded of it.

Thanks Adrian Musolino for reminding us yet again?

Australians need to get over the Italian dive of 2006

All this business about Muscat never playing in the premierleague, according to wikipedia.

“Muscat was part of the Palace team that subsequently won promotion to the English Premier League, defeating Sheffield United in the 1997 play-off final at Wembley.[6] Muscat made nine Premier League appearances for Palace before moving to First Division Wolverhampton Wanderers for £200,000 in October 1997.”

He also played for the Glasgow Rangers, in which they won a treble of Scottish trophies, played for Millwall with Timmy Cahill and they made the FA Cup Final only to lose to Manchester United. He also played 50 games for the Socceroo’s and scoring 10 goals.

Personally I don’t mind diving, as long as it was a foul. Example in the Asian Cup, Asian team’s foul Australia, most of our players would stand tall, and we’d rarely get awarded free kick’s despite losing the ball as a result, meanwhile our players could look in an opposition player’s direction and they could fling themselves flying in the air and milk a free kick from it. If a player dives from no contact or grab their face when no contact was made, than that’s what really annoys me, it’s dirty cheating.

Diving in football the best advertisement for other sports

“not least because Victory will no longer command the sole attention of a predominantly AFL-obsessed Melbourne media.”
– Never was much media attention or promotion since the first few seasons.

“The re-signing of Thai defender Surat Sukha eases the blow”
– Sukha is a terrible defender and a waste of an Asian passport.

“They won’t have the services of Nik Mrdja to call upon once the new A-League campaign rolls around either”
– This is good news, Mrdja is useless and along with Ward and are a disadvantage to have on the park.

“Muscat’s comments won’t have gone down well with those trying to build the Champions League brand,”
– It’s always nice to have an honest interview, so much more interesting than a boring interview where they say the same old things, e.g “The boys didn’t play well enough, we needed to lift to 110% and we’ll be back next season”

“nor will Victory’s persistent complaints over scheduling have won them many fans in Asia.”
– The ACL can’t move their matches, but the FFA can, except they just sat around like slugs, I can guarentee that any other A-League club would have had the same results under such pressure, we gave away a free 12 points to the Korean team and Kawasaki. Do you think that the Victory should have fielded a B-team for the A-League finals and full strength for ACL, or other way around? either way I think we tried to do the best we could in both, but the A-League finals matches always occured first which meant sore bodies for the ACL.

And you can accuse the Victory of simply making excuses. But try to look at it from their point of view, and ask the question, could there be a reason for it?

Time for change at Melbourne Victory

What baffles me is how people always refer to the ACL 2008, “This failure, following on from Melbourne’s equally anti-climatic 2008 Asian Champions League campaign.”

In the ACL 2008, Melbourne finished 2nd in the group with 7 points, this included a -3-4 loss at home (MV 3-2 up at 70 minutes) to eventual ACL champions Gamba Osaka (who thrashed Adelaide in the final). However in 2008, only the 1 team per group could progress. In that campaign we had 24000 for the game against the Korean team and Gamba Osaka.

Am I the only one that remembers this?

Should Victory reconsider Merrick's position?

Is it really that simple on the crowds? after a 1-0 away loss to Beijing, the second ACL game where we were very much in it drew 8000, the ACL campaign before that would draw 25,000.

Time for change at Melbourne Victory

Galekovic might be brilliant for Adelaide United where they rely on him but, for the Socceroo’s, the finishing at International level is alot sharper and he needs to be able handle having a quiet game than having a shot from nowhere and having the ability to pull off an amazing save. Against Kuwait he let in 2 cheap goals that were easily savable.

Mark Schwarzer: Pimming our hopes on the big man

Has Pim ever heard of… “the future”?

The third choice keeper is never going to get a game but, he should be looking to the future and be choosing Langerak to get use to the whole World Cup experience. Personally I think he is better shot stopper and better in his positioning than all the of the other 3rd choice candidates.

Mark Schwarzer: Pimming our hopes on the big man

I agree all the way.

Foz is very insightful and is on the money, most of the time.

I care much more about Asian Champions League, A-League and how the Euroroo’s are doing than watching some non English guy in an English team (that’s foreign owned) scoring against another English team that’s foreign owned. While the quality of their football is amazing, it’s also meaningless to me.

How do you rate 'World Football News?'

Fox Sports, too expensive, end of story.

Free to air exposure means more eyes are watching the A-League, sponsorships are worth more and i can ask Barry down the street, hey did you watch the game and there is a chance of him saying “yes”.

How do you rate 'World Football News?'

Let’s assume A-League issues don’t affect World Cup bid….

Lets make one thing clear, the World Cup bid definitely gives the A-League issues!

A-League issues won't hurt World Cup bid

I don’t think that the Socceroo’s need to necessarily progress out of the group stage, we just need to pull off an amazing match or 2 and that will generate alot of interest.

It wasn’t so much that we beat Japan or Croatia in 2006, but it was how we beat them (or draw), came from behind to steamroll Japan in the last 10 minutes, came from behind twice to draw a serious footballing nation against Croatia, and competing against the world champion Italy and to only go out to an iffy penalty in the last second.

And our style under Guus was really attractive, competitive and efficient! Not sure if i can say the same for the current team but hey, who knows!

Should we have seen this A-League crisis coming?

GC has a heck of alot of people (600,000), does it have the sport following?

If it were on FTA and had some sort of level of promotion, i’d suspect they’d reach around 10,000 fans, and all other A-League teams +5000-10,000 on their crowds for that matter. It’s hard to care or get interested in something you hear little about and never see.

I don’t understand, i’m not the only person that see’s it and it’s common sense, why is the FFA so useless?

Should we have seen this A-League crisis coming?

Do i get a point because he played for France?

And Roger Miller was who i was trying to say!

He is right with question 3 as it’s open up to interpretation, but it’s not common for Hungary to be reguarded as the best nation to never win a World Cup, they don’t qualify for tournaments regularly anymore where as the Netherlands have won the Euro Cup since their near misses and still contend major tournaments today.

Rellum, I don’t understand, how come you don’t go for the Victory?

and would you support the Hearts? If so, why?

Growing at 5,000-10,000 per week? That’s 260,000- 520,000 per year!

When I saw the figures a year or 2 ago, Queensland had by far the largest percentage of growth in Australia, but in actual numbers, Victoria, Queensland and New South Wales were all very close in terms of actual numbers. Wait… Why is this important? 😛

As for the Mallee and Gippsland, lets not go there! 😉 (double meaning!)

too true! 😆

Bonus Question. Engerland 😀

How can Victoria possibly be inbred? Inbreeding occurs in isolated area’s with a small population and lack of variation in the gene pool, often occured by geological barriers (long distance caused by desert or sea like in Queensland or Tasmania :)).

Victoria is closley linked to most of Australia and has the biggest influx of new people (From Oversea’s and within Australia) coming in.

More people might play football in Queensland than in Victoria, but more people support sport in Victoria than in Queensland. For a club to be sustainable, you need support.

However i can see the Melbourne Hearts being a total flop (By Victorian standards),
Who are they appealing to? If you support Australian Football and you live in Victoria, you go for the Victory.

It’s true, i also use to have a South Melbourne S.C poster.
And it had South Melbourne S.C on it’s logo in 1999.
