@Lionheart
Too many of them are still in denial and openly ignorant about the power of football here and overseas, maybe its part of the isolation of being from the other side of the world or even having a insular mentality when it comes to the view of the world and how it operates.
But they are seriously missing the point of the popularity of football and it does exist here and matter to this country, but if they don’t get it now they will never will I remember watching the ABC on Sunday when someone on Offsiders called the event ‘not cutting through’ I turned channels after that.
Basically put the national teams should be the forefront for the sport as much as I enjoy the aleague it will never compete with the AFL, NRL in terms of commercial interest and to be honest it doesn’t have to.
It just needs to help the national teams go on the right direction when it comes to promoting, developing and selling future Socceroo and Matildas stars of tomorrow as the strategical and footballing selling point anything else would feel like wasted energy.

One thing for sure that ive picked up is football is popular in Australia, it not might be reflective in supporting the local leagues when they are up against more formidable opposition overseas and traditional codes here who have more history and more commercial power but the national teams do reflect the popularity here especially when the game has a large playing participation base more than any other code.

For me the a-leagues both male and female should be positioning themselves to help cater the national teams because at end of the day they matter more than anything else for the game.
The problem is the admin who run the league have not always done whats best in a sporting aspect which has been frustrating to follow.
How many times Graham Arnold has called for a more longer season in the aleague mens when the APL refuse to bring in the season more forward closer to the European window?
At least the a-league women’s will have a longer season but its really important the APL and FA work together so the Socceroos great run last year and now the Matildas run is not a one off event because what they show is the sport in this country is a popular one and brings people together which for me is very important in a country as diverse as ours.

The dream goes on for the Tillies, once again we sat deep deliberating asking the opposition to own possession and use the space in behind for the likes of Foord and Raso to exploit especially the first goal.
And the second half we scored again via a transitional moment so another solid performance from the girls, we are definitely building.
Im still curious how we would go when we are forced to have the ball for longer periods as we have struggled to break teams down especially in the Nigeria game just recently, also Denmark we are bit wasteful with their opportunities especially in the first 20 minutes of the game so room for improvement.
I’m also curious how France vs Morocco will go today, France will be tough but Morocco might not be as scary so will see how that will go.
Shootout to two players the first is Mary Fowler, an wonderful technician on the ball and Australian football will be an much healthier place with more players with her technical ability in the future.
The other is Caitlin Foord who was excellent too, staying high and wide with Raso enabled them to be used in 1v1 situations which Foord fully exploited very well particularly.
We move!

Foord Fiesta! Caitlin and Raso fire Matildas into quarter finals as Kerr makes long-awaited return

Both male and female national teams made past out of the groups stages and into the knockout stages, cant remember this has ever happened to us but even some more known football countries would have loved to have both of their national teams doing well this especially when some of them they have been underachieving in recent times!
And this is with the issues the game gets with the lack of funding and media attention, if your Football Australia you would be doing whatever you can to get as much funding so we can experience this feeling again in the future.
Number 1 advice: Invest in youth development and grassroots, make the flower grow and blossom for future growth!
Im just grateful to have witness this and these kind of results dont often come around every time, so im going to enjoy this for whats its worth.

As the Matildas match the Socceroos’ World Cup effort, pride in Australian football is at an all-time high

A much better performance from the Nigeria game, however it helped that didn’t have as much of the ball so it suited them to play more on the counter attack but Gustafson playing Foord on the left and playing with two false 9s with EvE and Fowler worked a treat as it created space for Foord and we well with Raso to get in behind.
Canada to be fair did not play well and looked shell shocked but I was surprised by their approach given they didn’t even had to win this game so they look back with regret with their own approach because they were average with the ball and posed little threat with it.
My only concern was the lack of subs, we only have used 14 of the 23 allocated players for this tournament so the coaching staff have to be careful when it comes to tournament fatigue especially to our starting players where the workload will get more harder from here.
But a relief we are through into the knockout stages, bring it on!

'Something special about this group': Raso brace seals victory over Olympic champions as Matildas through to round of 16

We can win, the key is how Gustafson uses he’s best players properly.
I thought tactically he got it wrong when he didn’t bring on Chidiac earlier when we lacked creativity and didn’t bring in an extra forward for this World Cup campaign when Simon is just coming back from an ACL injury and it was too hard for Foord as a false 9.
And Nigeria punished us when lost the ball in crucial areas of pitch so ill give credit to them.
I also felt we lacked composure on the ball with too many misplaced passes and even defensively we lacked control and made some crucial mistakes, so I would be looking at those things particularly for improvement for tonight and this is without Sam Kerr where the whole conversation has been about.
I cant wait for tonights game its been an awesome World Cup, I was at Germany vs Colombia in front of a sell out SFS and was simply an incredible experience!
Im glad Australia can witness the power of the global game in front of our own shores, it’s a shame some are still a asleep on the wheel but this tournament could change the perspective of the sport which is encouraging.

The Matildas can make history in the biggest game we've seen in years

In 2018 Arzani was the most talented player coming through but how much can change in 4 years where we can fast forward and we are seeing a tone of attacking talent coming through with the likes of Tilio, Kuol, Irankunda, Silvera, Volpato and even Peupion with Brighton.

However its not too late for him at all, if there is one coach that could change he’s fortunes around its Popa he changed the careers of Topor Stanley, Bridge, Spiranovic around at WSW and even at Victory where he turned D’Aggostino, and Brimmer careers around too so its possible.

I hope it works out for him.

Daniel Arzani 9.0: Is he any good, or are we simply sick of waiting?

After watching the under 18 team play against the likes of Portugal, England and recently Norway I was very impressed with the technical level of the players and being able to play some nice football to boot, we have come a long way on that front when I recall we would struggle to compete on a technical level and often had to compete in other areas such as physicality or fitness which wasn’t compatible to youth football development.

Seems to me the curriculum which was brought in 12 years or ago or so is finally playing off and has created a good foundation for player development.

The key for me is more games at this level, the more you practice you preach the better you will become playing at a higher level so clearly in investing more in youth team should continue.

But the future is bright for Oz football, so refreshing to see the youth teams having the technical quality the compete with these teams from overseas now.

Never mind the doubters, Olyroos' statement win shows football on track in Australia
