It was more than that. They had 14 players on the injury list before the game, lost one before kick off with a hamstring niggle and Blackadder during the game.

Five talking points from Super Rugby Trans-Tasman, Round 5

Reading comments about the Crusaders-Waratahs game last week, I saw little understanding of how massive was the emotional shock of the Christchurch shooting on NZ and on ChCh people in particular. No-one was immune, tough professional rugby players included.

That’s not an “excuse” for the Crusaders’ performance. It’s just how it was. But it would be wise to not build any deep conclusions about the Crusaders on that game.

The Wrap: Super Rugby finals spots still open for all teams

I was at the game in Nelson. Enjoyable occasion all round. Argentina were good, exerted plenty of pressure and showed high levels of skill. They didn’t wilt. Their scrum was a weak point and they were caught by the ABs’ ability to strike when the chance arose, as Geoff describes.

To expect that Australia will automatically win next week because of history isn’t a convincing analysis. I expect it will be a competitive game and I wouldn’t be shocked if Argentina happen to win.
