Not sure how Ned Guy leaving changes the coaching approach. The bonus is that Graham Wright will take on the role. He is a winner, and the best recruit the Pies have made in years.
My vision for the next decade at Collingwood
Point 7 is spot on. The great Richmond & Hawthorn premiership teams have at least 3 quality indigenous players..The Pies almost exclusively recruit skinny white boys with limited match winning talent. Are the Pies avoided by indigenous players since Nicky Winmar and the dumping of Leon Davis?
My vision for the next decade at Collingwood
Can a guru statistician tell us how often the opposition scored against the Pies in the last two minutes of Q1, Q2 and Q3? This has been a constant in the Buckley era. Not sure who makes the recruiting decisions, but the Pies recruit almost uniquely skinny, white guys. The great premiership teams of Richmond and Hawthorn have at least four indigenous players. They are the match winners, the creative, the exceptional and the talented. The Pies recruited Varcoe and Wells, both very good players, but well past their best. And why did the Pies recruit Jeremy Howe? His marking ability and decent kicking are perfect for centre half forward, yet he’s played almost exclusively as a defensive stopper. A travesty and epitomises the lack of imagination and nous of the coach.

Pies should introduce Coach Lotto for its members..$10 entry per game. Winner gets to select the team and be the game day coach..At least if the Pies get done, as expected, the members would be happy in the knowledge that the coach had a crack. And if the Pies win, the coach gets another crack..bit like the pub pool table rules. I wonder how many Lotto coaches would pick Jack Magden?

How many on the Pies list would get a game with the Sun’s? Brayden Sier possibly…the most constructive mid at the Pies, usually dropped for a Z grader. Would Jack Magden get a game at Richmond’s VFL side? No way.

Having fond memories of journeyman Leigh Brown when at the Pies, I recall him saying that he wanted to coach on retirement. He is doing that by building a strong foundation, managing talented young players and staying focussed. He is a man with the ability to coach the Pies. Its time they used some imagination, a quality sorely lacking for 10 years.
