No Vlastuin spent the last 8 mins on the bench as a precaution. Game was over.

I’m not necessarily undervaluing the players out as actually rating some of the replacements. Caddy for instance was for a while this year not picked on form based on his role.

The Roar's AFL expert tips and predictions: Preliminary finals

Nathan Broad looks a stand out to me as clearly not in the best 22. I agree Lambert is a quality player, but so is Stack. It’s AFL players are going to get injured and it’s rare to have the best team on the field but god help us the Tigers “Army” don’t half go on and on and on about it. Give us all a rest, just play some footy. Honestly it’s like all we’ve heard from the Tigers.

FYI I didn’t mention Rance because I was comparing the round 12 team to the last Played Tigers team.

You’ve had a reasonable draw to end with to gain momentum coming into the finals with your 7 in a row at home, I’m sure if west coast played their last 7 games at home the statistics would point to a healthy bump in percentage and stats.

I notice Hardwick all relaxed in his presser. If the Tigers lose their second preliminary final
In a row I wonder if you guys will appreciate that aspect in him.

Richmond must have the best PR team in Australia. When they were struggling they officially changed their name to “Richmond decimated by injuries”, but as you point out at least Collingwood was more injury(or otherwise) hit than them.

I’ve been looking at the 8 so called missing players from the best 22 from round 12, surely Stack, Higgins and McIntosh are better than some of these replacements?

Out: Garthwaite, Balta, McIntosh, Butler, Townsend, Higgins, Stack and Naish
In: Ellis, Broad, Bolton, Short, Nankervis, Riewoldt, Lambert and Caddy.

Riewoldt and Nankervis stand out, but are the rest that much better?

Seems like a well oiled PR machine.

The Roar's AFL expert tips and predictions: Preliminary finals

I think west coast and Brisbane had a better year than GWS, but the top end has been fairly even so no surprise GWS make it.

Brisbane played a semi final not a preliminary final.

Presume you meant Tim Kelly’s game against WC last weekend??

I understand the end of season obsession with Richmond and Brisbane given how slick and exciting they’ve looked, but I’m struggling to see how they’re is such lopsided tipping for the Tigers given how well organised the Cats have been this year and their dismantling of WC last week. When they hit their zone no team has been able to shut down teams scoring like them as seen against the Pies and WC final quarters and earlier in round 12 against Richmond. Geelong looked like they got a bit of a glint back last week – my prediction is it will be fierce, but unless Geelong have a calamitous 40 minutes like they did against the Pies I can only see them winning by a fair margin.

Five predictions for this weekend’s AFL preliminary finals

Woah critical for a captain to stand at first slip? Advantages maybe, but as Paine argues, no one has a better view than the keeper. Brearley was a keeper though not when he was England captain. Steve Waugh: gully. Border, Ponting, Kohli were/are slippers but rarely first

England's captain is the Root of their problems

For someone that hasn’t seen the incident and misplaced facts you sure have a lot of opinions about it. Why not do a little research before casting your many opinions.

I’m ok with him playing cricket again but he’s very lucky to not have a criminal conviction. He got off light.

“Fairly well” lol!

Not even Steve Smith can catch Don Bradman

But that’s my point you can’t compare eras but you can contemporaries. Bill Woodfull, a great batsman himself, enjoyed a 192 run partnership with Bradman, where the Don scored 142.

As to the Dons professionalism, I don’t think he was particularly special in this regard.

Was it more leisurely? Bodyline caused an international rift with direct communication between Prime Ministers. I don’t think you should underestimate the level of interest in cricket during Bradman’s era where shield games attracted 100,000 crowds.

Div 2 is closer to Category A than First Class, no wonder he skittles sides.

I agree Jofra is not the panacea, even if he does well, he’s a debutant – let him play his role instead of single-handedly saving England.

England had moments, but bowling lacked patience and batting lineup still looks like their word cup lineup. How Roy gets a game astounds me. England’ clearly think they can do what Australia did with Warner. The difference is Warner actually has a tight technique, Roy doesn’t. Still Australia looks capable of another 8/122 score line and they won’t always have a batting master stroke to save their blushes.

Archer can have a big impact on the Ashes

I don’t think you should use the argument about the standard of cricket when comparing eras because there are far too many variables, though I suspect when compared to contemporaries the Don was still leaps ahead. The biggest difference I see in eras is equipment and particularly helmets, bats and covers. In one sense I agree averages don’t tell the full story but they give comparative indications within the era. Compare Borders scores against the bowling attack of 80s Windies with a retirement/rebel tour ragtag Aussie team with the bowling that smith faces. Though I will acknowledge the post war England team was poor.

As to the standard of the game, I’d argue it’s not a better standard now than in previous decades. T20, crowded tours, squashed domestic comps, declining crowds mean less focus on tests and talent lost to other sports.

As to selfishness Bradman scored at a clip as the game dictated. His third test in England he had a hundred before lunch, 200 by tea, 288 at stumps and went out for 334. Bradman was not Lara.

Isn’t Gillespie coaching Sussex at the moment? Also Langer himself has a fair county league resume

Selectors must opt for Siddle over Starc in first Ashes Test

Time to jog on I think

Uncomfortable as it might be, all sports fans should watch The Final Quarter

Maybe you do, because you’re out of step with your “country”.

Uncomfortable as it might be, all sports fans should watch The Final Quarter

Ahh, to call out a racist comment. Did you see another meaning behind him calling her out?

Uncomfortable as it might be, all sports fans should watch The Final Quarter

And he claims he doesn’t need to see it. God forbid he sees something in himself he doesn’t like.

Uncomfortable as it might be, all sports fans should watch The Final Quarter

Well I reckon he was a champion player and fully deserved his Brownlows. Honestly the guy could play, a proper ruck-rover.

The dirty tag does stand the smell test. Dirtiest act I ever saw was Mathews on Bruns, but you cant deny he was a champion footballer. Staging? There’s been an element of mayonnaise in football since forever and Goode’s is far from the biggest exponent even in his time.

Uncomfortable as it might be, all sports fans should watch The Final Quarter

Give at rest. The vibe of you is wrong.

Uncomfortable as it might be, all sports fans should watch The Final Quarter

Here is my opinion. If after Goode’s stated he felt he was being racially booed and there was enough evidence to support that with online trolls and supporters in the crowd, that then those who still maintained their right to boo him based on “other reasons”, then they were actually supporting racists, regardless of their stated opinion.

So have your opinion Anon, but it’s racially aligned.

“The act” phrase encompasses anything that isn’t a throw that moves the ball, so a bowler running down the wicket and kicking the ball or a wicket keeper deflecting the ball

England win World Cup final in thrilling super over finish against New Zealand

Given the NZ batsmen held a conference before the final ball to clarify the rules I’m guessing not exactly.

England win World Cup final in thrilling super over finish against New Zealand

Ahh, yeah… nah! It’s biased alrIght. I’m a Victorian and love the G especially on GF day, but just because I love the cricket on Boxing Day at the G doesn’t mean I don’t love the hill below the scoreboard at the Adelaide Oval, or the closeness of the SCG. Any of these grounds a) have their own heritage and b) would provide extra dimensions to a Grand Final.

Your economic view is moot as pointed out by others that the same economic benefits would and are able transferable by location.

What you also failed to discuss was growth of the game. The GF at the G doesn’t grow the game exponentially, but the potential certainly is there to grow if it was held interstate. I actually think there is a fair case to argue that focus in Victorian on the top end game is having a negative effect on growth at a grass roots level which appears to being largely ignored by the AFL much to local clubs anger.

Why the grand final must always be held at the MCG

Haha maybe you should check some races out from 30 years ago back when racing was a smelly, oily, visceral thing at the pinnacle of motor racing. Currently F1 looks like it’s half way to formula e, though that may be doing a disservice to Formula e

Timely Austrian thriller proves F1's OK after all

Lots are using the button. But for those that have enjoyed the sport for many decades to see it being driven into its current state isn’t something that should be allowed to happen without comment.

If you reckon F1 is at its pinnacle then more fair enough, for me the “driving on the limit” has slowly been administered out. Compounded by this I don’t think the race has been dominated for so long by so few teams.

Thanks for the critique and then prime example on how to spell/spice up a comment. I can see how you think the season is more interesting than it actually is.

If you want to know why there is talk of changes in F1 already check the viewing figures. It’s a turn off.
