Worst thing. Fitzsimmons hopped on the Socceroos bandwagon in 2006. Got himself a free ticket to the World Cup Final. Three months later Cannavaro was world player of the year. Fitzsimmons in his column said he’d never heard of him. Only the Captain of the winning team in the game you slithered your way into. Prat.
Who are the Foxes?
Sadly, or maybe not as I generally enjoy it, I’ve watched probably 90% of A-league games since inception. I’ve watched the Knights, I’ve seen teams beaten by five or more goals, but I’ve never seen such an incompetent performance as the Jets Friday night.
As others have said the reasons are obvious, and it wasn’t spirit, or player’s efforts, it was down to the coach’s decisions:
– start two un match fit players in the spine of the team, Celeski, Madaschi
– play the rock of the Jets defence at Right Back. Yes, he may have started there for Holland, but I suspect he had better coaching, better players around him and was 10 years younger. Ended up trying to cover five different positions.
– play a striker with potential, who requires attacking midfielders for support, but isolate him without an attacking midfielder in the team
– don’t consider how the Jets beat the Roar three times last season, but decide it’s a great time to experiment
– state how the Roar are under pressure, then proceed to play them into form with all of the above.

9/10 season, Nix had higher regular season attendances than Mariners, Jets and Brisbane. Yes, it’s a disgrace the Roar weren’t booted from the league. Nix will average attendances comparable with the Mariners this season and without any derbies. We want to grow the league, not reduce it and the Nix add something different. When they have success like they did in 9/10 their crowds will be way above the averages and even without that they continue to match the Mariners and Glory.

Whatever happened to the Marinators? I recall the “‘behind the Goals”was quite a large and noisy grouping. Wasn’t there some crackdown on misbehaviour? That went well, which now requires the ground announcer to remind the crowd they’re not at the golf.
