He declared 10-15 overs too late; no question, and I would bet he sensed it in his bones when a tired bowling attack couldn’t take a wicket before stumps on day 4. Uzzie gets his ton, let him enjoy that for 10 more runs if he can then declare giving the Poms a total ti chase they might believe they could get – if they were aggressive; thus forcing a real contest. Reckon he won’t be as timid given future opportunities like this one. He will be a great captain for Australia. He is clever, likable (rare trait of late in this role) and has the unqualified support of his team. Also has an excellent deputy who, if he can curb his ambition, will provide him outstanding counsel.

The Pat Cummins declaration: Would Mark Taylor have declared earlier?

I mean really, how hard is it? If RA had just sent out a quick presser when IF made his cartoonishly ignorant comments and stated that they no way supported his views nor did they reflect the beliefs of the organisation, this issue would have been over 2 weeks ago. However, thanks to the incompetence of RA, who have both mishandled IF’s contract negotiations and have utterly failed to manage this matter from a PR perspective, it seems likely that they will take Australian rugby to the brink of financial ruin all the while further shredding its reputation. All this on the eve of the RWC.

Do the majority of Australians agree with IF’s comments? No, probably not (I certainly don’t). But who gives a damn??

Israel Folau found guilty of code of conduct breach, sanction undecided

Don’t suppose you could send a link to that full interview? have looked around and cannot find it? TIA

"A friend, but maybe not anymore": Cheika opens up on Larkham axing

Yep; a poor decision. The unerring consistency the Wallabies achieved by being poor in pretty much every part of their game should have been reflected by the removal of the coaching staff who presided over the whole sorry mess.

"A friend, but maybe not anymore": Cheika opens up on Larkham axing

Agree. I would have thought the toughest part of the sacking would have been choking down the hypocrisy of telling Larkham he was being let go for poor performance.

Just cannot convince myself that Skelton is anything but a Waratahs marketing myth. Does make a little impact but mostly physiological. His carries were capable enough but didn’t have the penetration of teammates around him who had already played 60 minutes. Agree that Dean Mumm a better alternative off the bench. Morahan for Spieght also.

Roar Forum: What changes should the Wallabies make for Ireland?

Terrible to see such a proud team at such a low point; but the Boks will be back.

Coetzee in crisis after Boks blow it against Italy

Was a huge fan of Luke Morahan when he was playing at the Reds – hugely capable and perplexingly underrated in equal measure. Excellent to see him in green and gold.

Five talking points from France vs Wallabies

An incisive commentary. The prevailing, ongoing disrespect the ARU board / management have toward both the sport in Australia, grassroots and the fans is very disheartening. Rome burns while Nero fiddles.

Rugby is booming everywhere, except in Australia. Why?

Hmmm. 1 x Brodie Retallick worth at least 2 x Rob Simmons 🙂

Regardless of the head-to-heads, most of which I certainly agree with, the AB’s have consistency as their most dangerous weapon. Wallabies cannot boast the same.

But Wallabies to win anyway because the brand of rugby they are playing is simply more deserving of victory.

All Blacks or Wallabies for a record third Rugby World Cup?

Tsk tsk rahrah – ‘Guru’ is a position of gravitas and seriousness; it certainly doesn’t allow for such childish pursuits as humour and irony.

“The final will be a better contest for Australia’s presence,”. A masterfully arrogant, backhanded compliment. I cant wait for the Wallabies to return it.

Kiwi media wary of Wallabies

Exactly. We smashed him for being a grub whose form wasn’t great and certainly didn’t excuse his embarrassing transgressions. That’s it.

But we also love a comeback and KB has had a cracker of a RWC thus far. Delighted for one that his head is back in order and his game appears to be following suit.

Michael Cheika doesn't take any prisoners

Thanks David – you have done much to reinforce my own views on the Wallabies RWC thus far. Consistently is our worst enemy and is the only thing that will cost us the game against Argentina. We have shown that we can do it all – but apart from the game against the Poms, not all at once. If we do in the next two games we will be tough to beat.

Michael Cheika doesn't take any prisoners

McCalman in defence and as a pick-n-drive offensive forward, has done well. I certainly wouldn’t have given him a shot if I was selecting prior to the RWC. He hasn’t demonstrated ability as a however not as a starting 8 at this level. He lacks penetration as a ball carrier and simply doesn’t trouble opposition in the way an effective number 8 should.

Give Ben McCalman a shot at starting No.8 against Argentina

Yes, it was obvious to all, including Joubert, that the gig was up for Sio on the night. Should have been replaced earlier and his injury would have been prevented.

Rugby World Cup: Southern semi-finals confirmed, as Scotland leave Wallabies with plenty to work on

Yeah, that puzzled me also. McMahon seems to be out of favour with MC. McCalman is having a reasonable tournament and playing his full potential, but he is a bit of a journeyman. MacMahon is a real talent and I had hoped he would see more game time. Played really well against Wales and couldn’t understand why he was subbed early in the second half.

Rugby World Cup: Southern semi-finals confirmed, as Scotland leave Wallabies with plenty to work on

I agree. He had already given up 3 penalties for collapsing. I was screaming at the TV for MC to take him off. The next scrum he went down again and was injured. MC bench management this game not up to its usual high standard. Perhaps the absence of Pocock and Folau flustered him.

No easy way to a Rugby World Cup final

Pumas to be crushed by Australia who were indeed fortunate to win the QF only by a point. If they had been awarded the scrum they would have won by 5!

Go Wallabies!

Did the All Blacks show enough in that masterclass against Les Bleus?

I completely agree. I have been a vociferous KB critic over the years, for his on and off-field performances, but he has been a standout this World Cup. MC seems to have found his sweet spot; his confidence is up and he is dangerous every time he touches the ball. I do hope that we get both Pocock and Folau back for the semi, however if I could only pick one it would be the former. KB is covering for Izzy just fine.

But damn if we don’t get David Pocock back we are going to be demolished by the Pumas at the breakdown.

The Wallabies can't win the World Cup without David Pocock

If the outcome of the review was RGs reappointment then I feel sure that this will not satisfy members DJW.

What, putting the word ‘war’ before it makes it any less a dance? Grown men dancing in sync in front of a crowd? Sounds like it would be more at home as half-time entertainment, perhaps with JLo fronting?
