I’d forgotten about Craig Young, That was idiocy of the highest form, but that’s rugby league. I think we’ve all overlooked an obvious contender for the Dragons captaincy during Origin. Not Avery good footballer yet someone who, sensibly, is already looking at a career beyond football, someone who is good on the tools and especially proficient with a hammer…

Making de Belin captain of Dragons a sad indictment on a club that doesn't know what true leadership looks like

Hard drugs most of the time? Get real. Dropping an eccy before a game is stupid and reckless but it would have been a handful of times at most.

“Presumably” any other subculture…rugby league isn’t on it’s own in this regard

I’d like to think that the new head coach would recruit these people himself? If you’re a Dragons tragic like me you’ve been running through all the scenarios for months (maybe years) with all the coach options and their pros and cons.

They don’t need any more controversy that is for sure. The split board can show they can operate in the best interests of the club in their selection of the coach. But it’s a tough decision. I was all over the Ryles option but he has no experience in such a position and that troubles me. They’re all facing a tough gig, we know that. At the moment I think the best I can do is consider how pissed off the Roosters are about it and that has put a spanner in their plans for the next few years when Robinson runs out of road. So Ryles remains my preference based on that.

Dragon the team back up the ladder: Rating the coaching contenders for tough St George Illawarra mission

And so then even shorter to the Australian team of that era

Ashes burning questions, one month out: Batting woes, injured quicks, Bazball factor, who should be favourites?

He didn’t shirk it despite a tough first trot. Hard to watch the knock he got but he should give us all cause for optimism.

Am I the only one who wonders where the hell Josh Kerr has been and what he did wrong? He didnt do anything particularly notable but his size and his straight running is an asset to any side. The season before last he’s playing Origin, last season he was barely sighted??

ANALYSIS: Dragons need to keep showing faith in young star, Titans need to show some spirit

It is getting repetitive. Coach with no new tricks, no depth, divided board, one man team etc. It’s all true up to a point and it’s been done to death here and everywhere.
Btw am I the only one that doesn’t rate Amone? Sure there were glimpses last year but he doesn’t bring any unpredictability

Griffin door about to close: Why Dragons will be slithering back down ladder

And you wonder how the postcards don’t match the reality?

Roosters make rivals envious with poaching power but it’s not their fault other clubs are salary cap dunces

Yep. And so who else would have 10,000 runs at 57? Sangakarra? Anyone else? Not sure there is?

We will never know just how great Steve Smith could have been

I think it’s an absolutely inspired choice that will have very idiot referring predictably to the Gordon Tallis episode choking on their four n’ twenty. Tallis had very thing in his favour, thirty kilos up, on the touchline, a maroon jersey with which to wipe the froth etc. And it should have been a penalty, you cant grab blokes by the collar and drag them. But, Queensland. So anyway…
For those that don’t know much, if anything, about Brett: he was a very sound player, the sort of guy who did everything right, he reminded me of Brett Kenny in some ways. And if you dont know who he is then you shouldn’t be commenting on either rugby code. Fast, skilful, courageous, a great passer with, pound for pound, an excellent defensive game and just a footballers footballer. Most of you would reckon you know what that is?

CONFIRMED: Eddie turns to ex-NRL star for World Cup in risky first Wallabies coaching appointment

Very good point that last one Tony, neither can I. In consideration of everything above I cant go past Ryles: because of the Bellamy/Robinson mentorship which is beyond huge. Because no other aspiring first grade coach has had that apprenticeship. Because he is a local junior and a top shelf ex-player and that counts at this club, rightly or wrongly. Because he is new guard, not old guard and that is where most clubs are heading – in acknowledging the changes in the game and the needs of the modern playing personnel. And to balance that, because he won’t take ANY shit from his players. Because they should do it now and not wait until the situation gets worse.

Hasler, Flanagan or someone with fresh ideas - who looks right for Dragons’ coaching job when Griffin gets hooked?

Fair call. Let me re-phrase: you see the best XV’s very now and then, rarely consecutively (injury permitting). Not sure it’s even understood when they actually do?

ANALYSIS: Why Eddie was sacked by England, and what he must change to succeed this time around

If you’re good enough you are old enough. a cliche, yes. As good a sporting axiom as you can get, also yes. Regardless of the sport the best ones usually get an early shot. I watched a lot of schoolboy rugby last year, it had been a while since i paid such close attention. But the main reason was the talk about Max Jorgensen. Saw him play four games and each time it became clearer. he needs a few kgs, who doesn’t at 19 in such a physical game, but his rugby brain is top weight.

'Clean slate': Tahs hope Eddie effect fires players up, 10 battle explained, schoolboy prodigy impresses

So we get the sugar hit that everyone thinks is a fait accompli, is that so bad? Does anything other than the RWC really matter in international rugby these days? Lions tours still matter, Six nations too for those countries involved. And I’m partial to the three test tours we’ve had with England, Ireland, France etc, they’ve been excellent mostly. Even Bledisloe gets experimentation. But if Eddie gets us to a semi later this year then we are in with a punchers chance and i like Australian sports teams in that situation.

The thing is; you just wont see the best xv of any country unless its the RWC. All the tinkering is to that end only and its a shame.

Agree, those next in line are very accomplished and with Boland and Richardson there is good depth. Boland will go in if Cummins cant play and I hope they err on the side of caution because Cummins is a national treasure. If you saw him bowl in the 1st innings you can only shake your head at how good he is, BUT…aren’t you just a little bit excited that some random Shield quick has been generating enough heat in first class cricket that he may come from the clouds and get a run? I know I am. Ryley Meredith, same sorta deal, seems to have dropped off the radar, maybe he is injured, maybe its since Shane Warne left us he isn’t getting the props he once was. I say PLAY HIM and lets have some FUN. Anything other than what we got in the 1st Test.

Cummins only 50-50 chance as WA speed demon gets shock Test squad call-up with Neser

Davis Cup anyone? We made the final!

The Socceroos have proved yet again that only one sport can truly unite Australia

Couldn’t agree more, fair weather friends are beneath contempt. You pick and you stick. As a St George (Illawarra) die hard since the age of 7, when TV was black & white and I’d decided the red V was blue, my favourite colour, I got a shock when I found out it was red. But…I’d made my choice and that was that. My newfound commitment was sorely tested later that year when Easts belted them 38-0 in the GF but I stuck solid and was rewarded a few years later with two comp wins. After the drama of the ’77 draw the lop sided replay a couple of days later was ecstasy. If you don’t really care for a side you can’t have that. 2010 after all the GF losses was also profoundly joyous, the best part being the last twenty minutes when we had it in the bag (almost) and the crowd, about 80% St George, could savour it. I do enjoy watching games where I can relax, but it’s vever as good, win or lose.

Avoiding heartbreak: Is sport more enjoyable when you don't have a team to support?

I thought about getting up and doing something else but early in the third quarter I realised that this was an awesome performance by Geelong and so I stayed and had to applaud. Chris Scott deserved this one. They’re hard to win. Ask Horse, who has jagged a tight one and copped two beltings and one that was one sided at the end. Those two coaches are the embodiment of how difficult it is.

AFL News: Day grand final a TV ratings nightmare, concerns over Buddy after big day shocker

You do realise that the advertisers wont want to advertise if no one is watching in the first place. It’s a fine line. Whether I do or do not care is exactly the point if I’m representative of the market, to whom advertisers may seek to influence. If we’re not watching, we’re not watching.

There’s a tendency to be lazy there. Meanwhile Campbell Graham got relentlessly pounded after starting with cracked ribs. Poor bugger…

That said if he walked into Kogarah looking for a game I’d be ecstatic.

Latrell Mitchell – pioneer, entertainer, or just an ordinary fullback?

The relentless ads on 7 are beyond painful. The “market” wont cop it any more. Throughout the year I’ve watched a fair bit on Fox, none on free to air other than the GF. Never again.

When is anyone ready? Throw them in the deep end. We play experimental sides every time the Wallabies turn out. Samu is now a 7? Jed Holloway is now a second rower? It’s become a farce.

Wallabies CONFIRMED: Foley returns at No.10 as Rennie makes EIGHT starting XV changes for Bledisloe opener

I find cooper Cronk the worst. Get your septum straightened son. Furthermore go and see Locky’s throat specialist. And Maybe don’t parrot everything that everyone can already see with your critical analysis…then you’re good to go…

'They train out of a $25m facility that has never won a trophy': Tallis fires up at 'pampered' Broncos

Yes but he is saying what is typically obvious, like all these twits. Definitely not hard to work out. It’s the same with every code. The worst thing about modern sport. That and frikkin eardrum blowing music between every goal, kick, scrum, water break etc.

The AFL wouldn’t be game. If last weeks game against Melbourne was a few years ago they would have struggled to get 40K.
